*POSITION OVERVIEW*

The primary role of the part-time kitchen assistant is to prepare children's meals, assist with the receiving of food, and oversight of CACFP guidelines

*POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*

* Makes meals for infants, including, pureeing fruits and vegetables, broiling chicken and cooking beef, and other basic ingredients.

* Divides up the food and plating childrens meals based on CACFP requirements (which dictates how much food and the types of food each child receives) and ensures each classroom receives the correct amount.

* Delivers children's meals and beverages to each classroom and picks up food-related materials from classrooms at the end of each meal (breakfast, lunch, and snack).

* Handles administrative paperwork to ensure Marthas Table maintains compliance with CACFP guidelines (includes maintaining meal logs, menus, delivery tickets, temperature logs) and meals are OSSE and CACFP compliant.

* Receives meals (breakfast, lunch & snack) from the outside vendor and ensures the type and quantity of food delivered matches the menu and needs of MT; holds food at safe temperatures and/or reheating the food, as needed.

* Reviews the menu and food that is received and ensures that children with allergies receive safe food. Collaborates with Compliance to maintain an up to date list of children with food allergies.

* Ensures food prep areas are cleaned, sanitized, and maintained in accordance with Department of Health and ServSafe food regulations and guidelines

*EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS*

* Experience in the food services industry with a strong preference for experience with preparing and serving childrens meals

* Experience with CACFP meals with a preference for experience working with infants and toddlers

* Digital Literacy skills (MS Word, Excel, Gmail, etc.)

* Excellent customer service and public relations skills and strong oral and written communication skills

* Knowledge of large scale food preparation and safe food handling. Experience in a commercial kitchen

* Inventory management skills

*EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS*

* High School diploma or equivalent

* Culinary training and safe food handling

* Valid ServSafe DC Food Manager Certificate

* Training in inventory management

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 points. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
