Buyer - Orangeburg County, SC -Onsite
This buyer will be a collaborative self-starter, comfortable interacting on the plant floor as well in the office. Will manage approved vendors, placing purchase orders in response to product requirements established by various departments within the organization.
Material Planning experience a plus.
Responsibilities
- Will own Tactical Procurement of a Critical Direct Product Line/Commodity
- Will be adept at managing the nuances/complexity of SKUs/Suppliers, based on Category
- Evaluate bids, select and recommend suppliers and negotiate price, contract terms, quality and service. Typically reviews important bids with supervisor before placing orders
- Expedite orders with suppliers to meet production schedules.
- Negotiate and settle with suppliers regarding damage claims, rejections and losses, return of materials, over-shipments, cancellations and engineering changes.
- Conduct supplier site visits and rate them as to production capability, performance and delivery as needed.
- Bachelor's degree Required.
- At least 1 year related experience.
- Intermediate knowledge in a wide range concepts and approaches including purchasing for lean manufacturing, Kanban and supplier development.
- Strong negotiation abilities and above average analytical skills.
- Shows excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of raw materials, production processes and quality control.
- Competent in computerized procurement systems.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Electro-mechanical product/component experience a plus.
