The University of Miami is currently seeking a Patient Transporter to work at the UM Hospital & Clinics in Miami. The incumbent transport patients within the different areas of the hospital.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Pick up and transfer patients to ancillary services within the hospital or other facilities while maintaining the appropriate operational procedures and customer service standards.

(40%)

a) Use the standard greeting in every contact with patients.

b) Transfer patients cautiously and safely.

c) Interact with patients in a respectful manner, following the appropriate face to face standards.

d) Keep daily records of all assignments using individual log.

e) Monitor availability of equipment (wheelchairs, stretchers, personel protective equipment, chemo spill kit(s), and portable oxygen) and report needs to the supervisor.

f) Daily maintenance and cleaning of equipment.

g) Comply with infection control practices required for patient transportation.

h) Transport expired patients to morgue as needed, following the appropriate procedures.

Pick-up and deliver diverse items (such as patient reports, medical instruments, lab specimens, etc.) To and from other facilities or destinations maintaining the appropriate operational procedures and

customer service standards. (40%)

a) Use the standard greeting with the departmental contacts.

b) Maintain professional behavior while executing all duties, following the appropriate face to face standards.

c) Handle the diverse items with care and responsibility.

d) Drive University vehicles safely and only for business purposes.

e) Daily maintenance and cleaning of vehicles.

Pick-up and deliver Packages, mail, and other diverse items, and delivery them throughout the medical complex. (20%)

a) Pick-up the mail/packages from the Post Office and deliver them to the UMHC and Gables I mail rooms.

b) Pick-up and Delivers University inter-office mail from hospital departments to departments on the medical campus and other University campuses.

c) Routine pick-up of specimen from the UMHC lab and other University department and deliver them to JMH labs and other labs on the Medical Campus.

d) Delivery of Physician lab reports from the UMHC lab to offices all over the Medical Complex.

e) Pick-up Packages and Office equipment from BPEI and deliver them to Gables I.

f) Deliver packages once a month from Administration and deliver them to members of the Board of Governors.

g) Pick-up and Deliver sealed medication transport containers utilizing safe medication handling and storage practices in accordance with regular training and competency.

Minimum Qualifications (Essential Requirements):

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

2. Excellent Driving Record, HIV, CPR certificate.

3. Minimum of one year working with the public in a healthcare setting.

4. Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret document such as procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions and safety rules.

Ability to write routine logs

Ability to effectively respond to questions from patients and employees.

5. Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with every day issues.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral or schedule form.

Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks.

6. Interpersonal skills:

Ability to interact and communicate with diverse population.

Ability to communicate in a manner which shows empathy for patients.

Ability to interact with patients of different age groups.

7. Physical Demands:

Capability to move 120 pound or more.

Capability to drive or operate specialized vehicles

Capability to stand or walk for long periods.
