**Apprentice Piling Operative (Construction)**

**Piling- the stage of the construction process, whereby the foundations are formed below the ground, to provide support to the structure above this.**

Our Cementation operating unit is an internationally recognised specialist and one of the UKs leading piling and foundation contractors. We are experts in all piling techniques, working on multiple projects from buildings to complex infrastructure such as Crossrail, HS2, Battersea Power Station Redevelopment, The Gherkin and Heron Tower. We have over 100 years of experience and our level of skill extends to all aspects of geotechnical engineering, from micro piling to diaphragm walling.

As a Piling Apprentice, you will be placed on one of our projects, across the UK, to gain hands on experience, working alongside our knowledgeable Piling teams within the Cementation family. You will also gain a Level 2 qualification in Piling. This is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of building the future Infrastructure, road network or altering the Cityscape of any of the major Cities or major towns in the UK.

**What youll do:**

* Supporting the Piling team on-site, developing knowledge and experience in the various techniques in boring and forming piles in the ground

* Learn to guide and control the movement of our specialist plant and machinery, to form & Construct large diameter piles, that are capable of have working capacities of several thousand tons, together with mini-piling and Ground Engineering equipment

* Operate powered units, tools, machinery and equipment specific to piling operations, e.g., concrete pumps, fluid systems required for Piling

* Undertake mandatory training required for the role e.g., Manual Handling, Working at Height, and Health & Safety awareness, as well the use of powered hand tools and basic plant maintenance

* You will gain a Level 2 qualification as a Piling Attendant through block release to college where you will learn everything from basic soil Geology and First Aid to communication skills. We will cover the cost and accommodation associated with travelling to the college

* You will also receive training to enable you to operate basic plant and machinery and gain the following industry recognised CPCS Cards and categories, including A40A Slinger Signaller & A73 Plant/Vehicle Marshall, enabling you to work with the Cranes and Plant needed in this heavy-duty industry.

* You will be based in the North of England around Birmingham, Manchester up to Newcastle. Due to the nature of construction and piling, you will need to be prepared to work anywhere in the UK and work away from home. We will provide financial assistance with accommodation/travel when working away from home. You will be part of the Skanska Cementation family and work with other Piling Attendant apprentices whilst also learning from more experienced colleagues who are keen to pass on their knowledge and experience.
