Definition

Under general supervision of the Health & Human Services (HHS) Benefits Coordinator Manager, Patient Registration Representative primary purpose is to register patients by accurately collecting and analyzing all patients' demographics and third party coverage (health care insurances) to maximize reimbursement. Conduct excellent customer service. Interviews patients and assists them in completing required forms to process third party medical claims with excellent customer service. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt.

Examples of Tasks

Tasks:
1. Maintains a positive attitude at all times in a fast-paced environment. Provide a high level of customer service involving culturally appropriate interactions and connections with patients. Acts as a liaison to greet and direct patient flow.

2. Conducts initial patient interview to obtain patients demographics, health care insurances, and eligibility requirement documents. Ensures that required forms or eligibility documents are provided and scanned in patient's health record. Maintains updated and accurate knowledge of tribal regulations as they relate to coverage based upon geographic residence locations and tribal membership.

3. Reviews, updates and maintains all patient data in various components of the patient's health record (RPMS, BPRM, and Vista Imaging).

4. Establishes new patient charts in collaboration with Health Information Management team. Interviews patients to obtain pertinent registration information to insure eligibility for services. Obtains copies of tribal enrollment cards/CIB and other healthcare coverage cards including ACA, Medicare, Medicaid and/or private/commercial insurance and copy/scan/retain in patient chart.

5. Conducts insurance verification for third party payers, including but not limited to Medicaid, Medicare and commercial plans.

6. Communicates with billing department and Benefit Coordinators to optimize patient resources and billing reimbursement.

7. Follows all professional and ethical behavior standards of the healthcare industry. Interacts in an honest, trustworthy and dependable manner with patients, employees and stakeholders. Upholds all principles of confidentiality and patient care to the fullest extent including compliance with HIPAA standards.

8. Performs other job related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of the history, customs, culture and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
  • Knowledge of the AHCCCS, Medicare and Commercial insurance coverages.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards.
  • Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Skill researching a variety of information and problems pertaining to benefit matters.
  • Skill with a personal computer including MS Office and MAISE software. Proficiency with MS Excel spreadsheets is critical.
  • Skill with verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a team member with management and line staff.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and manage time and workflow efficiently.
  • Ability to perform detailed work for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to use discretion and judgment when dealing with client and program confidential information.


Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • For enrolled Community Members without a GED, must obtain a GED. Requires participation in the HR GED Program and successful completion of the Arizona state certified exam in order to continue employment with SRPMIC.

Experience: 2-years' experience required in a Patient Registration and/or healthcare front office
  • MS Office proficiency, with an emphasis on MS Excel, required.
  • Medicaid, Medicare and/or commercial insurance verification experience required.
  • Experience working in some capacity with Native American population highly preferred.

Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered.

Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.
Special Requirements

Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check. Employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
