Specific tasks or responsibilities will be documented in the incumbents performance objectives as outlined by the incumbents immediate supervisor or manager. This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Must possess a valid drivers license issued by the State where the applicant resides and must be insurable as defined in the UT System UTS 157, as applicable to the performance of essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Purpose of Position Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in grounds maintenance. Essential Functions Interprets and assigns work order specifications to personnel. Directs workers engaged in ground maintenance activities and the general external cleaning of university grounds. Directs workers engaged in fertilizing greenery and the application of herbicide and pesticide on campus. Directs workers in the redesigning of sprinkler systems and the installation of and repairs to masonry. Inspects campus for infestation; inspects rock walls or walkways for damage. Designs landscape layouts to include the use of bark, rock, grass and native plants. Assists with the propagation of plants in the greenhouse and annual plant sale. Assists with pre-event preparations and pre and post clean up of special event areas (ie;Sun Bowl, Minerpaloosa, concerts). Provides proper PPE and tools and equipment to personnel. Performs minor repairs to grounds maintenance equipment (i.e., lawn movers, edgers, etc.) Performs employee evaluations. Trains new personnel in all areas of grounds maintenance. Purchases and inventories shop supplies, machinery, and equipment; assists with the fiscal year budget for equipment needed. Estimates labor and material cost and reports the estimate to superior and work order initiator. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations by conducting safety meetings. Coordinates with other trades and department supervisors on work projects and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and working conditions to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew. Analyzes and resolves work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Maintains timecards and attendance reports. Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems. Complies with all State and University policies. Other duties may be assigned. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations objectives, policies and applicable laws. Required Qualifications One year certificate from college or technical school within area of assigned responsibility. Three years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possesses a current valid Texas drivers license. Preferred Qualifications Bachelors Degree in related field. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Certification in Grounds Chemical Program. Irrigation Certification. Integrated Pest Control Management. Proficiency in maintaining turf green year round and weed free campus with a proper chemical program. Knowledge of Integrated Pest Control Management. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment to include: Steel toe and Non-slippery shoes, rubber boots, respirator mask/dust mask, eye protection, ear protection, hard hat, face shields, rubber or leather gloves, and overalls.
