Summary Job Description:
The cost accountant applies knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures to perform professional cost accounting functions to determine costs of business activity. Computes unit cost of company products and establishes cost standards, adjusting them periodically as necessitated by changes in material and/or overhead costs.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Devises, installs or controls systems for determining the unit cost of products or services.
- Compares actual cost to cost standards and prepares and analyzes reports on variances.
- Classifies production costs into labor, material and overhead.
- Analyzes changes in product design, raw materials or manufacturing methods to determine effects on costs.
- Monitors new and changes to part numbers and bills of material.
- Analyzes direct material transactions.
- Analyzes indirect expenditure and calculation of burden rate.
- Participates in conducting and valuing physical inventories.
- Participates in the month-end closing process.
- Develops budget data and assists in the preparation of company operating budgets.
- Analyzes data obtained, records results using the computer, and prepares reports as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must have manual dexterity in both hands.
- Must be capable of visually locating files and analyzing information.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods in an office setting.
