Job Title: Varsity Coach

Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities

The Varsity Coach has knowledge of the fundamental skills and techniques, as well as the advanced techniques needed for the specific sport. The Varsity Coach instills commitment, discipline, and teamwork and is responsible for successfully following the CIF/CCS Coaches Code of Conduct and the BVAL Coaches Code of Conduct. The Varsity Coach works/communicates with parents, students, staff and the community. The Head Varsity coach is responsible for oversight of all levels within the program/sport.

Supervisor: Athletic Director under the direction of the site principal

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrates knowledge of the rules and fundamental skills and techniques, as well as the advanced techniques needed for the specific sport.

Demonstrates successful personality and character traits appropriate to educational leadership.

Demonstrates knowledge and ability to organize practices and design an appropriate conditioning program for the specific sport.

Demonstrates successful management and organization skills including following all district guidelines and policies.

Demonstrates successful ability to work with parent groups, administrators, staff and students.

Demonstrates successful ability to organize and maintain positive communication with the community.

Ability to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork in a group young people of perhaps widely varying athletic ability, socioeconomic background.

Ability to help students balance a demanding academic workload with athletic commitment.

Ability and knowledge of district fiscal and cash handling procedures/ protocols with respect to fundraising, purchasing of supplies, payment of tournament fees and other funds related to the sport.

Maintain and inventory equipment and uniforms to ensure student safety and minimize loss.

Ability to follow the CIF/CCSBVAL Coaches Code of Conduct and the BVAL policies and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

Playing experience in the specific sport at the high school, collegiate, amateur or professional level.

High school coaching experience at the Junior Varsity level or youth leagues/middle school in the same sport, or equivalent experience.

Current State of California coaching certifications.

Current certification required by the East Side Union High School District, including but not limited to ANNUAL mandated reporter training.

Must pass District Fingerprint clearance.
