Description

This is semiskilled work in performing a variety of manual tasks in water and sewer maintenance requiring considerable physical exertion under direct supervision. This position involves responsibility for performing a wide variety of tasks that require limited skills in water and sewer maintenance and public works such as plumbing assistance, masonry, and the use and maintenance of hand and power tools incidental to public works and maintenance activities. Assignments are usually received orally from a Crew Leader, a Field Supervisor, or the Chief Wastewater Operator, who inspects work while in progress or upon completion. Duties are frequently routine; consequently, they may be performed with some degree of independence.
Summary of Duties

Operates light mechanical equipment such as mowers, weedeaters, light trucks, etc.; operates power and manual tools utilized in public utilities maintenance activities; clean tools and equipment used.

Cleans and assists in making repairs to plant equipment, pumps, building maintenance and additional duties assigned by crew leader/supervisor. Assists skilled workers in the performance of their tasks.

Loads and unloads materials and performs any other manual tasks involved in the general operations of the Sevierville Water Systems.

Cuts grass and performs other manual grounds and building maintenance tasks.

Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires graduation from high school, GED or specialized vocational training.
Requires possession of a valid Tennessee driver's license; commercial driver's license is preferred.
Requires over six months of experience; two years is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands refers to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Perform light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
