Job Details

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Structured Cabling Crew Lead will be responsible for the installation, modification, repair and maintenance of Structured Cabling, Access Control, and IP camera systems. This includes the physical installation of cabling, overseeing the work of others, surveying work sites to determine the best installation practices, coordinating workflow within the unit, act as company liaison and provide on the job training to other technicians as needed. The Lead Cable Technician is responsible for making independent judgements where normal procedures or guidelines or not established.


SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Review project when assigned and participate in the project kickoff/status/closeout calls.
  • Perform site surveys, read and use blueprints and floor plans, and conduct visual site inspections.
  • Develop project plan including required materials, completion schedules, manpower requirements and tool/equipment lists.
  • Work with logistics to verify hardware.
  • Determine closet and equipment layouts and install closet hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosures, and balance video equipment.
  • Physically install Category 6, 6A, fiber optic structured cabling distribution systems and access control system cabling.
  • Installation of outlets, pulling cable, fire stopping, and pre-termination including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards.
  • Terminate, assemble, and install 8-pin modular connectors and coaxial connectors, light crimp connectors and optical fiber ST, SC, and LC ceramic connectors.
  • Accurately test and save copper and fiber (multimode and single mode) cables to required certification parameters utilizing appropriate test equipment as required.
  • Diagnose and correct copper and optical fiber problems.
  • Removal and demolition of abandoned cables.
  • Install entrance facility grounding infrastructure and perform grounding tests.
  • Perform cable splices for copper and optical fiber.
  • Identify active circuits.
  • Provide accurate, daily updates to the Project Manager, Site Supervisor, and Technical Services Manager as to project status, work completed, and any timeline concerns. Photograph work completed each day and provide as part of the daily report.
  • Daily data uploads of documentation.
  • Escalate any out-of-scope concerns or requests.
  • Possess the ability to instruct other technicians on techniques, work, etc., to maintain project workflow.
  • Verify that scope of work is complete.
  • Photograph completed project.
  • Possess knowledge of Access Control systems and cable requirements with the ability to install access control devices and knowledge of low voltage power supplies.
  • Maintain and reference industry electrical codes.
  • Attend training and safety meetings.
  • Work safely at all times and utilize PPE. Demonstrate safe working practices to other technicians.
  • Inventory materials and keep van stocked.
  • Be professional and courteous when meeting with our clients or providing client with updates.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have 5 or more years of experience as a wiring/Cabling technician.
  • Must possess a high level of independent judgement within established procedures.
  • Minimum BICSI Technician certification or equivalent certification
  • Must have a valid drivers license and be insurable with our auto insurance carrier during course of employment.
  • Must adhere to OSHA Safety standards.
  • OSHA 40 -hour certification
  • Lift Safety Training certification.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours to accommodate client schedules with some overtime and overnight travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the regular and traditional duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; reach with hands and arms. While performing the duties of this this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, and use hands to pull cables and wires, use power tools, work in awkward positions and climb ladders. The employee must be able to safely lift and/or move up to 70 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and color vision. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud and employee may be exposed to outside weather elements. These physical aspects of a Technicians position are ongoing throughout the workday and not merely occasional in nature.
