At Syngenta, we believe every employee has a role to play in safely feeding the world and taking care of our planet. To support that challenge, the SE Production Operations team is currently seeking a Wheat Production Technician located in Burley, Pocatello, or Twin Falls, Idaho.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with P&S Manager and R&D seed purification teams to establish a seed crop plan.
  • Responsible for the purification and multiplication of all Syngenta wheat seed stocks for Domestic and International use.
  • Contract lease ground for internal parent seed productions and secure production acres with contract growers that maximize yield and quality and minimize freight costs.
  • Maintain quality and purity standards for both varietal and hybrid parent seed production.
  • Coordinate and monitor progress of seed certification inspections for internal productions and with contract growers. Ensure purity and phytosanitary standards are met for all seed stocks.
  • Coordinate the proper storage, conditioning, packaging, and inventory records for seed products.
  • Establish/revise protocols for proper seed crop management in hybrid parent seed production.
  • Record all seed crop management information using approved documentation resources.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the appropriate R&D and Commercial leads regarding the production and distribution of existing and new hybrid/conventional wheat releases.
  • Manage the transfer of branded and licensed seed from Syngenta/contract growers to conditioners and distribution team in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and/or execute special R&D projects focused on best management practices for economical seed production and the release of superior hybrid/conventional products.
  • Budgeting and coordinating the maintenance of all Syngenta-owned equipment along with maintaining local Syngenta-occupied facilities.
  • Train, guide, and mentor other staff members in all aspects of their duties while maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring compliance with all HSE and stewardship requirements.
  • Manage all operational affairs for assigned responsibilities. Communicate regularly with P&S Manager to inform on progress and any complications/limitations/delays.
  • General administrative management duties including preparing contracts, collecting preparing inputting data for field management records and production reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Support other functional groups including Quality lab, Greenhouses, R&D, and Commercial.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience in seed production or equivalent work experience and knowledge required.
  • BS degree in Agriculture or related field preferred.
  • Training in crop scouting or agronomic certification is preferred.

  • Ability to maintain and safely operate tractor, farm, and field equipment.
  • Experience with precision agriculture equipment and operating systems.
  • Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple productions simultaneously at peak work periods.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex instructions.
  • Ability to contribute effectively as a team member in cross-functional activities.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environmental/situational needs.
  • Ability to make timely, effective decisions.
  • Ability to interact effectively with growers and third-party personnel.
  • Class A CDL required.

Physical Demands Of The Essential Functions Of Position

  • Position requires being able to walk seed production fields in any weather/conditions.
  • Position requires working 7 days a week during critical time of year.
  • Position requires travel by car/pickup during certain periods of year.

Working Conditions While Performing Essential Functions

  • Position is Remote (home-based) in Southeast/South-Central Idaho.
  • Position requires work in dusty conditions and environments with varying temperatures.
  • Office work environment a portion of the year.
  • Travel by vehicle and air approximately 20% of time.

  • For internal candidates: Two years current position preferred. Candidates who have been in their current position a minimum of one year will be considered if they have the approval of their current business unit leader and hiring business unit leader.
