Description

  • Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  • Serves as the point person and works directly with all guests in the YMCA Shelter Program assigned.
  • Performs daily procedures including but not limited to; phone operations, alarm systems, general cleaning needs of the facility, shift rounds, operational paperwork, clerical and/or filing work and computer data entry.
  • Controls access into the building by means of monitoring the entrance way during the hours for arrival and departure.
  • Communicates special guest needs to the Team Coordinator by means of a Daily Shift Reports, Incident Reports, verbal reports at shift change and/or via email and phone if determined necessary.
  • Responds to all guest and facility emergencies pursuant to established Emergency protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with other social service agencies to assist with referrals and provide information to the guests regarding other available services located within the community.
  • Assist with administering the Shelter Policies and Procedures in accordance with Agency Operating Procedures (AOP), CARF and Program, Review & Certification Standards (CSB).
    • This can include: interviewing and processing incoming guests for admissions and conducting exit interviews for discharging guests; responsible for bed count & bed list accuracy; ensuring facility/building safety; coordinating resources between other team members and Guests;
  • Provides Safety services throughout assigned shift, including but not limited to: entry/exit procedures, bed count, and emergency evacuation protocols.
  • Assists with input of guest information on various systems/computers and other filing as deemed necessary.
  • Participates in departmental and assigned association meetings, training, and special events.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma required, associate's degree preferred, plus 1+ years working with low-income population, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have intervention skills to resolve crisis and non-crisis situations in a timely manner.
  • Must have the ability to assist in all aspects and operations of the YMCA Shelter/Overflow Program
  • Must have the ability to develop a rapport with individuals with special needs including people with mental illness, substance use and criminal histories.
  • Multi-tasking abilities

Training requirements:
    • Immediately upon hire: American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifications, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
    • Completion of Additional Shelter Services Training: customer service, community resources, cultural competency, child and elder abuse, sexual harassment, ethics mental health/substance abuse, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, evacuation procedures, reporting and confidentiality.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
