DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Houston Health Department is seeking experienced individuals to serve as outreach and engagement staff to the community to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and promote public health priority messages. Will also include:
Duties include:
1. Serves as responder to public health emergencies such as floods, hurricanes, and support for surge activities such as testing and vaccination.
2. Assists individuals or families in navigating through health and social care systems, helping them overcome barriers to accessing services.
3. Performs outreach and education in the community focused on increasing COVID-19 vaccine uptake. Also performs door to door canvassing providing information to individuals and families about programs and services.
4. Engages the community in health education, health literacy and chronic disease management and disaster preparedness, including community engagement events, health fairs, and other public events. This may include field oversight, data collection (facilitating focus groups, listening sessions, and town halls).
5. Performs data entry activities to record information in Client Trak and other data entry programs.
6. May refer customers who require additional assistance to the appropriate agencies.
7. Participates in special projects as assigned by the department.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of administrative or customer service related experience is required.
Substitution: An Associate's degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

SALARY INFORMATION: GRANT FUNDED POSITION
Grants & Special fund positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

Pay Grade: 13
