TITLE: LeadCare Attendant

REPORTS TO: Housing Manager

Job Summary: This position is responsible for providing personal care and designated health-related services designed to maintain the resident's physical and emotional wellbeing. The Lead Care Attendant serves as a liaison between care attendants and housing manager/clinical nurse supervisor on resident care and employee issues.

Qualifications: ACNA/NAR or HHA certificate is preferred, but not required. Must be scheduled full time (.8 or greater). The Lead Care Attendant must possess sensitivity and aptitude for working with the elderly.The Lead Care Attendant is required to have an ability to read, write and speak English, and complete and pass a state required background study form which checks for certain criminal convictions or serious maltreatment.

  • Assist in onboarding and training of care attendants
  • Assist in scheduling of employees to maintain staffing standards
  • Assist the resident with activities of daily living, per their individualized service plan, as delegated by the RN. Includes up to- dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, device care (hearing aides, glasses, etc)
  • Delegated Nursing Tasks as follows:
    • Medication Administration- including monitoring and documentation
    • Treatment Administration- including monitoring and documentation
    • Obtaining vitals (TPR, BP, SP02) and weights as instructed
  • Help each resident to reach and maintain the highest level of performance. Promote independence, not dependence, with residents offering choices and fostering self-help skills.
  • Observe residents and report changes in physical and emotional condition such as change in attitude, loss of appetite, weight, etc. Report changes to RN.
  • Assist with meal preparation as needed as directed following special meal plans per UDALSA
  • Maintains cleanliness of facility and resident apartments per instruction in chores or service plans.
  • Lead/assist resident activities as scheduled and assigned
  • Understand and adhere to the Vulnerable Adult and abuse policy, Bill of Rights and HIPPA.
  • Apply principles of good body mechanics when lifting and moving objects. Use transfer techniques consistent with proper body mechanics.
  • Participate in disaster planning drills (fire, tornado, severe weather, etc.) when on duty.
  • Maintain awareness and adheres to use of safety devices according to the care plan and suggests their use when appropriate.
  • Develop knowledge of actions to be implemented in emergency situations.
  • Practice fire safety and accident prevention procedures.
  • Follow all policies and procedures governing the operation of Minnewaska Community Health Services.
  • Attend In-service training as assigned
  • Ability to read, write and speak English and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and documentation on each resident
  • Ability to effectively present information on one-to-one and small group situations to customers, residents and other employees of the organization
  • Must understand and communicate medical terminology
  • Must be punctual, with a good attendance record
  • Must use kind tone of voice, remaining calm in difficult or unusual circumstances
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations
  • Must be compassionate and work with tact and ethical awareness
  • Must work as a team member with other personnel and RN
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills
  • Must obtain 8 hours Dementia Training within 80 hours of start of employment- ALDC Licensed Facilities Only
  • Must obtain 8 hours Dementia Training within 160 hours of start of employment- AL Licensed Facilities Only
  • Completes required education and Dementia Training annually thereafter
  • Other duties as assigned
