This position will be responsible for IT needs within the department, including supporting end-users in daily technology use and supporting research program goals. This position should possess a broad range of technical skills and be adaptable to the research atmosphere of continual changes in objectives.

**Department Profile:**
The Institute for Clean Energy Technology (ICET) at Mississippi State University is an interdisciplinary center comprised of research, and engineering design and development for industry and government partners. Our overall effort is focused on materials and components of vital safety systems used throughout the nuclear complex.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
* User support
o Desktop hardware support
? Installation, maintenance, management, and support of upgrades and new purchases of end user systems.
o Desktop software support
? Installation, maintenance, management, and support of desktop software.
? Support users in the evaluation, selection, use, and configuration of wide range of software.
* Department/program support
o System administration of departmental technology resources including servers, copiers/printer, etc.
o Develop and implement backup and recovery plans for file/data repositories
o Develop and maintain custom applications to support research program.
o Conduct periodic group training for technology use within department
**Minimum Qualifications:**
Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
2 years of professional experience.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
Experience with Linux and Windows server system administration
Experience with end-user software support including MS-Office and Windows
Experience with software development (C/C++, Python, Java, etc.)
Experience with SharePoint site development
Experience with database design, deployment, and maintenance/administration (MS-SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
Understanding of Linux and Windows system administration.
Well-developed interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to perform with professionalism and produce quality, reliable results.
Strong analytical and technical skills with an attention for detail and accuracy.
Self-motivated and directed, with the ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
**Working Conditions and Physical Effort**
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond ones control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; may involve conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
May require occasional work on nights, weekends, and hours outside of the regular 8-5 workday.
