POSITION TITLE: Assistant Graphic Design Teammate
REPORTS TO: Assistant/Associate Designer
LOCATION: New York Design Office (NYDO)
OVERVIEW
Launch your career as an Assistant Graphic Designer with American Eagle Outfitters' (AEO) immersive 16-week training program. The Training Program is a combination of classroom training, field experience, cross functional and executive exposure, and working on the job as a full time assistant!
* This is a full time/permanent job opportunity! After completion of the 16 week program, you continue as an Assistant Graphic Designer with AEO.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
* Assistant Designers will work within the design department of one specific brand (AE or Aerie) and product category
* "On-the-Job" training with assignments guided by an individual Coach & Mentor
* Classroom learning that includes: PLM training, department overviews, career path, presentation skills, trend/competitive shopping and product development
* Individual and group projects incorporating product and trend presented to senior leadership
* Roundtables with top executives
* Bi Weekly self-evaluations to understand progress throughout program
* Provide design & administrative support from concept to design to final development
* Master knowledge of all styles, raw materials and trims
* Assist with the management of cross-functional communication between merchants, production, technical design and external vendors
* Help to organize and keep track of samples
* Assist in sketching designs in Illustrator (flats)
* Prepare PLM packages and update them as needed
* Assist with the preparation of presentation boards for seasonal/ milestone meetings
* Conduct design research
* Attend fit sessions
* Review lab dips, samples and submits and enter/send comments to vendors
* Prepare line sheets and update as necessary
* Perform other duties as required
* After the 16 weeks, transition to an Assistant Designer within AEO!
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
* Associates, Bachelor degree or equivalent professional level experience required
* Strong design acumen through classes, internships or prior work experience
* Keen eye for color, trend, detail and construction
* Passion for design and knowledge of the AEO, Inc. family of brands
* Understanding of trends and how they relate to the AE/aerie customer
* Contemporary sense of fashion exhibited through personal style
* Strong organizational, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation skills
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team
* Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
* Self-motivated with critical attention to detail and deadlines
* Working knowledge of Adobe Suite (specifically Illustrator & Photoshop) & Google Suite
* Familiar with MAC and PC format
* Ability to be in the New York City area
* Ability to work in a hybrid environment which will require working in person/in-office for a portion or all of a week based on the needs of the business

* Actual starting pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to relevant experience and location.
