The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor oversees the pharmacy technician operations of the pharmacy department in a hospital environment. Ensures the efficient delivery of pharmaceutical services. Assists the Pharmacy Manager in coordinating and supervising the daily activities of Pharmacy staff, delegating assignments as necessary in accordance with established policies and procedures, and maintaining department productivity. Serve as a resource to the pharmacy and nursing staff for advanced issues and questions. Duties are performed under the supervision of a pharmacist and according to professional standards and practices.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Supervise and provide leadership to a team of pharmacy technicians, including hiring, training, and evaluating performance.
  • Prepares sterile medications, including hazardous and investigational drugs, using aseptic and negative-pressure technique in accordance with guidelines on the preparation of hazardous drugs
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth among pharmacy technicians
  • Coordinate and schedule daily activities to ensure smooth workflow and efficient operation of the pharmacy department.
  • Responsible for coordinating the ordering of necessary pharmaceuticals, suppliesmaterials, equipment and services required for pharmacy and various departments
  • Oversees pharmaceutical and supply inventory management
  • Maintain medication kits and dispensing units in various clinics to ensure inventory accountability and within date use
  • Perform and run reports related to medication use and critically assess needs for restocking, use, expiration, or drug return
  • Responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the cleanroom
  • Train and assess competencies of Pharmacy tech I, II & III associates
  • Successfully perform annual re-assessment of skills related to the preparation of sterile compounds (both hazardous and non-hazardous)
  • Responsible for the proper handling and receipt of hazardous and investigational drugs in-line with national recommendations and site policies
  • Performs all other duties as assigned



EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • College coursework in business/management, position-specific advanced coursework, and/or an equivalent combination is preferred.
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician program is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working as a pharmacy technician is required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory capacity is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of oncology or chemotherapy compounding, admixture technician experience, and/or clinical trial research experience is preferred.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy in good standing
  • Or Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) certification
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification
  • Sterile compounding (IV certification) certification required
  • Preparation of hazardous drugs (e.g., chemotherapy) certification preferred
  • BLS required
  • ACLS preferred
