Position: Building Substitute Teacher
Reports to: Harrison Junior School Building Principal
Southwest Local School District, situated in the southwestern corner of Ohio, is composed of: Harrison Elementary School, Miami Whitewater Elementary School, Crosby Elementary School, the Southwest Early Childhood Learning Center, Harrison Junior School and William Henry Harrison High School. We believe that education needs to take a leadership role in improving society by enhancing activities/programs that help develop well-rounded students who can cope with everyday pressures. We are seeking a Building Substitute Teacher for the 2024 - 2025 school year and beyond to join our team at Harrison Junior School. The Substitute teacher will report every school day and be placed into a teaching assignment or be given duties around the building if no classroom position is needed. Alternate duties may include providing intervention/enrichment to small groups of students, supervision duties, or any other task deemed necessary throughout the day.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provide best practice instruction.
* Establish clear standards of student conduct and maintain an orderly, productive classroom environment.
* Teach content and skills in the subject area according to the state standards and district curriculum maps, guides, etc.
* Encourage students to think independently and to express original ideas.
* Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional development activities.
* Attend staff meetings when possible.
* Perform other tasks/duties as assigned by the building administrator.
Qualifications/Characteristics:
* A positive and enthusiastic attitude- We have to work together as a team. Enthusiasm for the subject matter and content areas is important as well.
* Good communication & teaming skills.
* Good organization skills.
* Be a team player.
* Flexibility- Expect the unexpected. The candidate needs to have to ability to be prepared when the daily schedule/routine is interrupted.
* Proper certification required.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal

Qualifications Profile:
* Hold at least a substitute teaching license (4 year college degree needed)
* Certification/License in education a plus (Ohio State Certification as a Teacher)
Education:
* Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Degree in education definitely a PLUS!
