Pay Range: $55,000 - $72,000 (summer's off)

POSITION TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Special Education Coordinator

POSITION STATUS: Exempt

CORE HOURS: Monday Friday, 7:45 am 4:15 pm

DUTY DAYS: 187

POSITION PURPOSE

Speech Language Pathologists at Lionsgate Academy provide services to students who are in the 7th to 12th grades qualifying for special education services; many of whom are on the Autism Spectrum. They identify students with social, communication, and/or executive functioning needs; plan and implement appropriate treatment to minimize adverse impact on student success; recommend treatment plans; and provide education and direction to other school personnel in regard to student needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assess students with speech, language, social, and/or executive functioning needs and determine eligibility for services; participate in the interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with speech, language, social, and/or executive functioning needs according to school procedures; monitor progress to determine readiness for the termination of therapy services.

Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech, language, social, and/or executive functioning goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

Ability to research, create and implement assistive technology/augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Counsel and involve parents in the remedial process.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom-based activities to increase student success in the classroom.

Collaborate with case managers to plan and implement functional activities to increase student success in the home, school and community.

Provide relevant plans and programming in relation to functional communication, speech, language, social, and/or executive functioning needs.

Teach or co-teach small groups on topics related to social skills

Provide staff development training to assist school personnel in the identification and understanding of students with communication, social, and executive functioning deficits.

Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.

Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and school policy.

Recognize added literacy risks for students being treated for spoken language difficulties and suggest assessment strategies to identify whether a language difference or disorder might be at the root of literacy challenges.

Maintain positive, professional relationships and use appropriate verbal, nonverbal and written communication with all individuals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

MN Educational Speech Language Pathologist license

Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship (CF)

Ability to operate a computer and the software necessary to complete the required job tasks

PREFERRED EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge and experience working with students on the autism spectrum

One year previous experience working with middle school or high school age youth
