Job Details
PRIMARY FUNCTION
* Directs traffic at intersections in the vicinity of public and parochial schools, both elementary and high schools, and public parks.
* This is a year-round, part-time position with two (2) shifts per day one 4-hour shift in the morning and one 3-hour shift afternoon.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Controls traffic by hand or with traffic lights at designated crossings to allow children to cross safely.
* Determines movement of traffic when traffic signals are not controlling or functioning.
* Remains alert to prevent children from attempting to cross the street when traffic is moving.
* Must be prepared to act quickly and objectively in emergencies.
* Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, children, parents, and the public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
* High school or GED equivalency.
* Must be able to get to assigned school location on time.
* Knowledge of traffic regulation.
* Ability to learn applicable departmental rules and regulations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
* Ability and willingness to work in inclement weather throughout the year.
* Standing is required for all shifts which many last up to four (4) hours.
* Ability to see and hear traffic, children, the public, and any obstructions.
Must pass a criminal background investigation, pre-employment physical and drug test.
