Design Engineer


Job Details

Job Summary:

The Design Engineer will engineer projects from approved concepts to production assembly. The role will also assist with optimizing shipping and installation. This role will analyze the product, equipment, performance specifications, and performance requirements. It will solve mechanical challenges and develop design solutions that can be produced using industry-standard manufacturing processes. The Design Engineer will value engineer to optimize production cost and speed to market.

Essential Functions:

  • Run multiple large-scale projects autonomously or simultaneously.
  • Prepare detailed drawings, assembly drawings, project specifications, and bills of material.
  • Provide technical information concerning manufacturing/processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations that affect design/production cost, lead time, or other pertinent factors.
  • Statistical process control, including assisting with quality control plans. Help determine function and validation testing.
  • Collaborate with Industrial Design, vendors, and production resources to resolve design/manufacturing issues that influence the development of the design direction.
  • Create BOMs and collaborate in part number assignments per manufacturing processes required.
  • Provide necessary technical documents for recording, filing, and distribution.
  • Work with downstream departments to determine the most efficient assembly, shipping, and installation scenarios.
  • Regularly perform field research to evaluate current real-world environments.
  • Attend trade shows and seminars to keep current on current manufacturing fabrication and technology
Organization Relationships
  • Reports to the VP of Technical Services.
  • Works closely with members of the engineering department and internal teams such as industrial design, manufacturing engineers, project management, QA and the model shop.
  • Work with the Team Leader to prioritize work assignments.
Education, Experience, Skill Requirements

Education:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Experience/Skills:
  • 4-7 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent.
  • Proficient in PLM is a plus
  • Knowledge/experience with any or all materials/processes: wood, sheet metal, weldments, and plastics (including fabrication, vacuum forming and injection molding).
  • Understanding of methods and techniques of dimensions and tolerance.
  • POP, retail fixture design, and interior architecture experience a plus.
