Description

SUMMARY

Repairs and maintains mechanical equipment and components such as industrial and commercial motors, pumps, gearboxes and various rotating equipment of all sizes and types including disassembly, evaluation and repair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Inspects equipment and components by visually observing the unit for physical damage, missing parts, leaks, etc.

Disassembles equipment and components by marking and removing parts of the unit, while also measuring gears, shafts, bearings, etc., noting any damage or signs of wear.

Diagnoses mechanical and electric failures by conducting a root cause analysis of working and non-working components. Tests parts and equipment, including motors, windings and electric circuits by utilizing multiple testing equipment (voltage meters, meggers, impulse winding testers, etc.).

Reviews schematic drawings to identify parts, assembly, procedures and other related work instructions. Performs Internet-based research using manufacturer and part number.

Performs work on lathes, drill presses, milling machines and other general machine shop equipment.

Cleans parts, tools and equipment during disassembly, evaluation and repair using handheld tools, water, solvents, etc.

Uses tools, such as torch, grinders, hydraulic and mechanical pullers, to perform disassembly and repair work. Performs operations such as drilling, tapping, deburring and surface conditioning using manual machinery and tools.

Meets with leadership to determine daily and weekly work priorities and adjusts work activities accordingly.

Attends to, cleans and observes equipment and machinery to verify efficient and safe operation.

Ensures all products are completed to production, quality and technical specifications.

Pulls jobs to quote from staging area and obtains approved units from WAPP area and transfers to workstation.

Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.

Participates in ongoing training and other company programs to develop job skills.

Performs other duties as directed by leadership.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED preferred.

1-3 years previous hands-on work experience disassembling/assembling industrial and/or commercial machinery or equipment required.

Experience using pneumatic and manual hand tools and measuring tools (i.e., micrometers).

Previous experience operating industrial equipment like forklifts, hoists, overhead cranes, etc. required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Strong knowledge of pumps, motors, gearboxes, electrical and other related equipment.

Ability to read and interpret equipment and machinery schematics and other types of technical drawings.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operational instructions, maintenance manuals, and procedures.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Must have strong self-initiative and be detail oriented.

Ability to willingly participate in a team environment to achieve departmental and organizational goals and objectives.

Ability to work with established deadlines.

Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours to meet business needs.

Frequent standing, bending, stooping, climbing, turning, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying required to perform disassembly, evaluation and repair tasks. Fine motor skills required to operate hand tools and equipment related to computer work, disassembly, evaluation and repair tasks. Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance. Occasional computer work in a standing or seated position. Consistent attendance with occasional off-shift support required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Generally, will work in a climate controlled, well-lit mechanical shop environment. May occasionally travel to customer or vendor sites or to attend off-site training.

Occasional: activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.

Frequent: activity exists 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.

Salary Description

$17 - $20 / hour
