Must be open to 1st and 2nd shift.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Tool Room Area Manager, is responsible for building, repairing and trouble shooting tool and dies, supporting the press room during die sets, and collecting and analyzing data to improve part processing and quality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Build tool and dies from part prints, sketches, reference parts, or instructions.

  • Operate tool room machinery in a safe manner during build process.

  • Perform tool and die repairs on progressive dies, manually operated dies, and tooling

diagnose and trouble shoot dies in the bench and make corrections.

  • Work from T.C.O. program reports and last piece references to make corrections as required

to produce quality parts.

  • Support try out and make ready to run production after die steel or tool installations.

  • Support press room operations by servicing die sets, trouble shoot dies and make corrections

when possible with die in the press, and through using SPC data to determine dimensional

integrity for die adjustments and documents.

  • Interface with both internal and external customers, participate on problem solving teams in

production, and handle customer and supplier concerns.

  • Support MOS, and safety programs. Also responsible for practicing good housekeeping

standards.

  • Performs other essential functions as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Training and experience: Prefer high school diploma or the equivalent, completion of a certified 4 year apprenticeship program in die making and/or tool die making, or eight years of consecutive work in tool/die shop building tools and dies. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

MAJOR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tool and Die Makers must be able to stand on the concrete floor for the duration of work shift, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, bend to floor, and use arms and hands. Will exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Visual precision is needed for visually inspecting parts for quality at production equipment speed, and for reading documents, machine gauges, and precision measuring instruments.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Tool room of a stamping and assembly factory. The employee is subject to high noise levels, and physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts. Some occasional travel to customers, suppliers, and Midway.

Tool and Die Makers may be hired to work in a specific area, however, all tool and die makers are expected to be able to work in all production areas in order to promote productivity, quality and safety.
