6M Description **PURPOSE:**

Directs and plans the purchasing and procurement of materials, parts and equipment. It is designed to accomplish receiving specific materials, machinery, or work to be done at an actual needed date to keep production running smooth. General function of the job is to coordinate from start to finish, the process of getting the best price, delivery, quality merchandise or work for the particular job needed.

**DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**

Handle requisitions received for the purchasing of maintenance repair and operating items (MRO) throughout the plant. This includes getting the best price, delivery, and quality from the vendors. Coordinating relative information with all departments, placing orders, coordinating approval of all purchase requisitions, calling the vendors to place all orders, expediting all orders so they are received promptly, work with accounting closely, and receiving departments.

Enter purchase orders in the system

Distribute copies to receiving and accounting and file all orders and corresponding paperwork

Check receivers against the P.O. to make sure items are received correctly

Handle all RTVs (shipping paperwork)

Maintain daily and weekly models used for the purchasing of parts for the divisions assigned

Provide analysis of inventory levels and accounts when necessary

Maintain communication of vendor production schedules

Communicate to management inconsistencies in fulfillment from vendors in a timely manner

Analyze possible shortages and suggest possible alternatives

Analyze current pricing and negotiate cost reductions with suppliers

Focus on continuous improvement, and consistently demonstrate good business judgment

**Buyer will follow up on the following:**

Requests for MSDS

Check requests

Credit references sent (opening new accounts with vendors)

Maintenance agreements and service contracts

Responsible for ordering all safety apparel (shoes, etc.) and uniforms (for all employees)

Schedule flexibility to support critical deadlines may be required.

Other duties as necessary

Requirements

**EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):**

A.A. degree in business is preferred or a minimum of two years experience procuring materials.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:**

Excellent computer skills required: Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook

Ability to express self clearly in verbal and written form ability to interface with all levels of personnel

Ability to handle multiple programs and tasks simultaneously and efficiently

Ability to work in a comprehensive team environment

**POSITION SUPERVISES:**

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

**CONTACT WITH OTHERS:**

Contact is required with everyone in the purchasing department, all supervisors and all departments making purchases for MRO items, as well as, with accounting and receiving departments. Contact is made with various vendors on a daily basis (telephone contact, and also in-person meetings)

The department supervisor approves all purchases, and gives feedback on some purchases.

**PHYSICAL/MENTAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:**

Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, written, and numerical intelligence.

**LOCATION:**

Gentexs Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia. The area hosts numerous nearby state parks, nature preserves and local colleges and universities, including The University of Scranton and Marywood University.
