Job Details

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the maintenance of City grounds and property.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Performs landscaping duties to include, mowing, trimming, edging, weed eating, fertilizing and spraying of City property.

* Performs general maintenance including carpentry work, painting, plumbing, electrical work when needed.

* Sprays fungicides, herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers.

* Reports major problems to supervisors.

* Picks up supplies from vendors.

* Picks up trash along the roadside and removes any debris from the roadway, such as, debris, trash, large items and concrete spills.

* Digs irrigation ditches.

* May assist Sanitation Department when requested.

* Serves as back up to co-workers.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

* High School Diploma or GED.

* One (1) year experience performing groundskeeping, landscaping or general maintenance.

* Any combination of education and experience totaling one (1) year may be considered.

* Valid South Carolina Driver's License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

* Knowledge of groundskeeping.

* Knowledge of safety practices involved in groundskeeping.

* Knowledge of general maintenance tasks.

* Knowledge of department policies and procedures.

* Skill in oral communication.

* Ability to operate tractor, edger, weed eater, leaf blower, table saws, airless sprayer, drill, air compressed tools, auger, water pump, chain saw, band saw and grinders.

* Ability to perform heavy lifting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 25 pounds of force regularly to move objects and the following physical abilities: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed outdoors with constant exposure to dirt, grease, insects and inclement weather.
