Summary:

The Research Assistant is responsible for gathering accurate information and summarizing findings in research-related activities to support senior research staff in the Animal Bio-Health Sciences program. In addition, the selected candidate will be in charge of carrying out daily operations and contributing to excellent service in the Department of Food and Animals Sciences. Work may be assigned by the Principal Investigator, and assignments may be changed on an as-needed basis in order to ensure that studies are handled appropriately and in a timely manner.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Support the planning/implementing of the program's research activities by making detailed observations on animal experiments (animal production and welfare)

* Maintaining quality controls standards to preserve the integrity of data and findings

* To perform literature searches and maintain compliance with established laboratory safety (GLP, IACUC, RCR, and radiation safety protocols) and other procedures

* Stock, inventory, store, and order supplies as needed to maintain appropriate operations

* Work cooperatively as a member of a team and in a professional manner

* Writing reports to summarize data and the implications of the resultsMinimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):

* Bachelor's degree in animal sciences (or closely related fields) plus additional working experienceKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Working knowledge in the use of domestic animal species in research

* Working knowledge of the use of laboratory equipment (Spectrometry assays, pH meter, dilutions, blood processing, centrifugation, radiation safety procedures, etc)

* Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
