OTS offers temporary, temp to hire, direct hire and emergency on-call opportunities including great benefits.


LOCATION: Gregg County, Texas

POSITION: Utility Operator Wastewater Treatment

SALARY: $20 - 24.00/hr


SCHEDULE:

7:00 am 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Every 3rd week a Saturday/Sunday shift for 4 hours with the following Friday off.


JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Chief Wastewater Operator or others as assigned, to operate and maintain wastewater treatment plant equipment and associated lift stations and complete processes to ensure water quality criteria is met to discharge into a receiving stream.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:Operate and maintain plant equipment and plant processes

  • Collect samples from plant units as required and submit for analysis
  • Perform and/or review sample analysis to monitor and adjust plant processes accordingly
  • Monitor charts, meters, recorders, equipment and SCADA and make adjustments accordingly
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment as required.
  • Operate and maintain sludge dewatering belt press and associated equipment
  • Service and maintain plant structures, buildings and grounds
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Performs some or all of the duties of Maintenance Worker, as required or assigned.
  • Provides first aid assistance as needed on work sites.
  • Regular attendance required.
  • Must be able to work any shift assigned including days, evenings, nights, swing shifts, and rotating on-call as needed.
  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Valid Texas Driver s License
  • Minimum: Current TCEQ Class C wastewater license

  • Knowledge of safe handling techniques of hazardous chemicals and materials.
  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
  • Skill in operating assigned equipment and tools.
  • Ability to learn to operate associated software systems quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to utilize computer hardware and software relating to work and field equipment.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance and repair techniques for water, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems depending on area of assignment.
  • Understand the City purchasing policy concerning City issued credit cards, obtaining bids/quotes for associated repair work.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Work is performed in field environments.

  • May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry, and vision to monitor.
  • May experience rough or unstable terrain and works in high, precarious places and exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • May be subject to extended periods of bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing ladders, lifting or carrying building materials.
  • May be exposed to moving traffic, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, heights, confined spaces, trenches, air and water borne pathogens, body fluids, infectious diseases, rodents and insects.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.


OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES:Provides backup assistance, on-call coverage and support to other City departments as assigned.

  • Travels to attend meetings and training.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
  • Equipment utilized includes hand/power tools and equipment specific to area of assignment, ladders, testing equipment, generators, water pumps, department vehicles, and others as assigned.
