Job Summary

Park Rangers keep grounds of City buildings and playgrounds. They clean, repair and maintain buildings and equipment. Work is performed under the supervision of the Sports Coordinator, Deputy Director, and the Director of the Department. The employees of the City are required to serve citizens and customers in a tactful, courteous manner; establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, directors, elected officials, and general public.

Compensation

Starting at $14.00 per/hour for not more than 26 hours per/week. This is a seasonal part-time position and is not eligible for benefits nor paid time off.

Nature of Work Duties

  • Duties include taking care of lawns, grubbing and weeding around bushes, trees, flower beds and trimming hedges
  • Responsible for trash pickup, sweeps pavilions, tennis courts, walks and main driveways
  • Cleans and maintains comfort stations and buildings, unlocks and locks park gates dependent on park schedule
  • Cleans cooking grills, repairs and paints benches, tables, guardrails and assists in the repair of roads, walks, buildings and mechanical equipment
  • Policies park areas and restrooms and assists park users when needed
  • Moves picnic tables and rearranges as needed and prepares and maintains sports fields
  • Completes supply and equipment inventories and reports them to the Sports Coordinator
  • Performs other related tasks as directed by the Sports Coordinator, Deputy Director and Recreation Director

Environmental Conditions and Equipment Used
  • Exposure to outdoor working conditions
  • Exposure to noise and vibration that could cause distraction and/or hearing loss and/or bodily strain/harm
  • Uses tools and equipment that are relative to the position, including hammer, edger, steam cleaner, barricades, animal chemical sprays, etc.

Minimum Training, License, Education and Experience
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old and have earned a High School degree or equivalent
  • Experience must be beyond short demonstration up to and including 30 days
  • Ability to operate locks and keys, work without supervision and follow written/oral instructions

Specifications (Skills, Mental and Physical)
  • Must have the ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form
  • Must be able to read at a level to understand procedures and methods related to the job, as well as communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Must have math ability that includes basic math
  • Must be able to complete medium work that includes exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects and/or 250 pounds with assistance of another person
  • Must be able to complete work duties that include reaching, handling, fingering, feeling and repetitive motions
  • Must have hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and receive detailed information through oral communication and/or make fine distinctions in sound
  • Must have visual acuity for determining accuracy, thoroughness of work and observation of general surroundings and activities
  • Must be able to adapt to changing situations, work well with others and participate in a team-oriented environment
  • Must be able to be customer oriented and maintain excellent customer service
