GI Alliance is seeking an experienced Triage Nurse.

Scope: Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. Promoting efficient patient flow and directing patient care functions with clinical support staff as necessary. Supports and adheres to the GI Alliance of IL Compliance program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following

  • Provides general nursing care to patients. Demonstrating knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including physiological and developmental differences unique to each group.
  • Triage patient/family phones calls as needed, and documents relevant information in the patient's medical record.
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching.
  • Processes prescriptions and refills and returns calls to patients as required, or directed by physicians.
  • Processes authorizations needed for patient medications/procedures/tests.
  • May schedule new and return appointments in the computer system in accordance with physician and/or clinic guidelines. Cancel/ reschedule appointments according to physician schedule changes, notifying appropriate clinic personnel.
  • May follow up with patients as needed to reschedule missed appointments.
  • Maintains current knowledge of G.I. nursing and function as a resource to junior level staff.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic/corporation.
  • Maintains current Illinois Nursing license and BLS certification.
  • Follows all NWG/GIA of IL policies and procedures.
  • Reports pertinent information to NWG physicians.
  • Communication is objective and professional.
  • Assists with other nursing activities as assigned.
  • May perform other clinical and/or administrative duties as assigned by Practice Administrator (within general scope of skills).

Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited program for professional nursing education. This position requires at least 3 years of general nursing experience. Current state licensure is required, and BCLS certification will be required within 3 months of hire.

This position requires range of body motion including, manual and finger dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, and eye-hand coordination. May requires sitting for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs., require vision correctable to 20/20 and hearing correctable to normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
