Eastern State Hospital (ESH), located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state-of-the-art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

ESH is seeking experienced BOARD CERTIFIED PSYCHIATRIC AND MENTAL HEALTH NURSE PRACTITIONERS (PMHNP) to serve as Head of the Treatment Team and become a valued member of the ESH Medical Staff.

The qualified candidate must have post-clinical training experience and have experience practicing independently as an inpatient PMHNP and serving as the Head of the Treatment Team for an acute, inpatient psychiatric population; a comprehensive knowledge of best practices for inpatient psychiatry; strong clinical skills; and the ability to provide guidance to interdisciplinary treatment teams.

The candidate must also be willing to work shared on-call duties and provide onsite medical and psychiatric coverage on weeknights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are covered by all full-time medical staff members and outside on-call providers. The on-call pay rate for a Board Certified PMHNP is $85/hour.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed in Virginia as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • DEA registration.
  • ANCC PsychiatricMental Health Nursingboard certification.
  • Post-clinical training experience and experience practicing independently as an PMHNP and serving as Head of the Treatment Team for an acute, psychiatric inpatient population.
  • Available to work shared on-call duties and provide onsite medical and psychiatric coverage on weeknights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are covered by all full-time medical staff members and outside PRN practitioners. The on-call pay rate for a Board Certified PMHNP is $85/hour.

  • Licensed autonomously in Virginia as a Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
