Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (All duties listed may not
be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class)
Performs general repair and maintenance work on buildings and related systems (E.G., air-conditioning, heat, boilers); repairs/ maintains appliances and equipment; inspects buildings and equipment to identify
needed repairs.
Performs various skilled labor/repair functions such as carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, painting, etc.
Repairs, rebuilds or replaces motors, pumps, bearing, packing, gear boxes, belts etc.
Performs construction/ remodeling projects (e.g., removing interior walls; hanging/finishing drywall; installing conduits; etc.
Performs routine and preventive maintenance tasks as needed (e.g.,
changing air filters; cleaning condenser coils; changing light bulbs and ballasts; repairing/replacing door hardware; etc.)
Performs general cleaning/housekeeping tasks associated with conducting repair projects and maintaining shop areas.
Performs various tasks/errands as assigned (e.g., running cables, wires or telephone lines; unloading truck deliveries; moving furniture; picking up supplies; etc.)
Tests machinery, equipment and parts for proper operations.
Operates various equipment and tools related to department operations (e.g., drill, saw, screw gun, ladder, carpentry tools, mechanic tools, plumbing tools, electrician tools, etc.)
Prepares and/or receives various forms, reports or other documents; processes and forwards as appropriate. Reads/ interprets blueprints and construction drawings.
Answers the telephone; provides information; takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.
Responds to routine requests for information from officials, employees, the general public and other individuals.
Maintains availability on a twenty-four-hour basis as needed.

Operates a motor vehicle for use in conducting work activities.
Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
High school diploma or GED required.
HVAC certified preferable, at least five to eleven months of experience
in general mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building repair/
maintenance or related field required, or any equivalent combination of
education, training, and experience which provides the requisite.
knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Driver's License.
Clear criminal and driving history a must.
