Senior Principal RF/mmWave Architect

Job Description:

In MACOM's MMIC Business Unit we design MMICs and IMAs for aerospace & defense, cellular, and other wireless applications.We are looking for a Senior RF/mmWave Architect with experience designing & analyzing RF & Millimeter Wave multi-chip modules.You will:

  • Technical lead for complex multi-disciplinary engineering development efforts.
  • Be responsible for all design activities related to product development activities from kickoff through engineering evaluations.
  • Design, analysis, layout, test of the portions of the design which are within an area of expertise within electrical engineering while providing technical oversight for other technical individual contributors.
  • Work with our MMIC design, electromagnetic design, mechanical design, assembly, and test teams to develop new products as well as production methods.
  • Initiate prototype builds and manage product characterization.
  • Creating schematics, models, and simulations where appropriate.
  • Analyze analog, digital, and electromagnetic structures using tools such as SystemVue, LTspice, Matlab, TINA, ADS, HFSS, GRASP, Excel, etc.
  • Generating design reports, progress reports, Gantt charts, budgets, test reports, datasheets and bill of materials.
  • Organizing design reviews.
  • Cooperating with Program Management in order to maintain an up-to-date project plan and schedule.
  • Work with our Product Engineering group to transfer the product to production.
  • Keeping up to date with latest technologies (semiconductor, assembly, antenna, packaging, tools).
  • Maintaining passion for the latest in RF & mmWave technologies and electronics in general.
  • Customer support (sampling and application notes).

Qualifications:
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, PhD preferred.Closely related PhD in a field such as Physics, M.Eng., or B.S. in Electrical Engineering with substantial relevant experience may be considered.
  • Bona fide electronics, PCB, and antenna enthusiast
  • 10+ Experience using SPICE simulation tools (TINA Design Suite preferred)
  • 10+ years of research or development experience in the areas of mmWave and antennas (internships and research assistantships are acceptable)
  • 10+ years of experience with RF simulation tools such as MWO, ADS, or QUCS (ADS preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience using two or more of the major 3D EM simulations tools such as HFSS, EMPro, CST, WIPL-D, FEKO, TICRA GRASP, XFDTD.
  • 10+ years of experience making electrical measurements using equipment such as oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, both far field and near field antenna measurements.
  • 5+ years of experience as a chief RF architect balancing basic RF concepts such as impedance matching, linear and aperture antennas, use of Smith charts, linearity metrics (IIP3, OIP1, IMD, NPR, EVM), microwave network analysis, non-reciprocal ferrite analysis, RF filter design.
  • 5+ years of experience using RF system analysis software such as Keysight Genesys, SystemVue, AWR VSS, or Matlab/Simulink RF Toolboxes
  • 3+ years of experience as technical lead for complex multi-disciplinary projects in areas such as radio astronomy, RADAR, radiometry, wireless communications, SIGINT, etc.
  • Familiarity with embedded digital design toolchains for microcontrollers and FPGA's (such as Atmel, Xilinx)
  • Familiarity with PCB layout tools such as Altium, PADS, or KiCAD
  • Good communication, organization and documentation skills.
  • Strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build long lasting partnerships.
  • Ability to work in fast pace environment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
