Position Summary:
The Delivery Specialist II plays a pivotal role in maintaining smooth and efficient mail operations. Their attention to detail, compliance with regulations, and commitment to customer service are essential in supporting the university community's communication needs effectively. In addition to overseeing mail processing, this position will serve as a backup to the post office clerk role.
Ideal Candidate Statement:
The ideal candidate possesses administrative office experience, prior USPS employment, and excellent customer service skills.
Workplace Requirements:
* Ability to lift boxes up to 40 lb.
* Ability to travers campus in various weather conditions.
* This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person at the Police Annex Building, Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range:
* $16.83 - 20.24 per hour
Minimum Requirements:
* Associates' Degree
* In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis
* 2+ year of related office/mailroom experience
* Valid Texas driver's license (or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment) with no more than three moving violations within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated or Driving Under the Influence within the past three years; ability to drive golf cart, van, truck, etc.

* Reliability: Dependability in adhering to schedules and fulfilling responsibilities consistently.
* Proactive Attitude: Taking initiative to improve processes and provide the best possible service.
Preferences:
* Great customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers.
* Mailroom/ processing experience.
Essential Functions:
* Sorting and Processing Mail: Sorting incoming and outgoing mail and packages by department or recipient, ensuring accurate and efficient handling.
* Delivering Mail and Packages: Transporting and delivering mail and packages to the correct departments or recipients within a specified area or campus.
* Logging Deliveries: Recording the details of deliveries and pickups, maintaining accurate logs for tracking and accountability purposes with the use of handheld device and computer.
* Customer Assistance: Assisting customers with mail services, helping them track and locate packages
* Forwarding Misdirected Mail: Identifying and redirecting mail and packages that have been sent to the wrong department or recipient.
* Operating Delivery Vehicles: Safely operating delivery vehicles, if required, to transport mail and packages.
* Maintaining Equipment: Keeping delivery equipment, such as carts and vehicles, in good working condition.
* Ensuring Security: Safeguarding mail and packages to prevent loss, theft, or damage.
* Adhering to Policies and Procedures: Following university policies and procedures related to mail handling, delivery, and customer service. Ensures strict adherence to postal regulations and university policies related to mail handling and delivery. This includes proper labeling, packaging, and documentation as required by postal authorities.
* Using specialized mail processing software, barcode scanners, and other tools to streamline operations and enhance efficiency. These technologies help in tracking mail, updating records, and improving overall mail handling processes.
* Sort incoming and outgoing mail based on destination, urgency (such as priority mail), and other relevant criteria. This ensures that each item is processed efficiently and reaches its intended recipient promptly.
* Utilizing specialized billing systems or software to accurately capture and process charges related to mail services. This may involve entering data, generating invoices, and reconciling billing statements to ensure accuracy.
