Overview:

The Health Assistant will provide support for College Health Services during office hours, and/or be on call to respond to calls to College Health Services when the office is closed, as well as staff the Impaired Student Recovery Area and staff special events.

Qualifications:

Education:

-High School Diploma or equivalent. (Desired) -If a student, must maintain a 2.0 or higher grade point average. (Minimum)

Experience:

-Must possess a current EMT Certification for the state of Pennsylvania OR be a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). (Minimum) -Maintain required certification or licensing as required by the licensing/certifying board. (Minimum) -One (1) year experience working in an office setting. (Minimum) -One (1) year as an active EMT, CNA, LPN, or CMA. (Desired)

Abilities and Skills:

-Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. (Minimum) -Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. (Minimum) -Ability to work on own initiative. (Minimum) -Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and needs. (Minimum) -Must be willing and able to attend training as requested. (Minimum) -Determines nature and extent of illness or injury. (Minimum) -Ability to communicate verbally; via telephone. (Minimum) -Ability to interpret written, oral and diagnostic form instructions. (Minimum) -Ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high stress situations. (Minimum) -Ability to read English language manuals. (Minimum) -Ability to interview patient, family members and bystanders. (Minimum) -Ability to document, in writing, all relevant information in a prescribed format in light of legal ramifications. (Minimum) -Ability to converse in English with coworkers and ambulance personnel as to status of patient. (Minimum) -Certified in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer or Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Professional (Minimum) -Possession of a valid drivers license. (Desired). Candidates possessing a valid drivers license may be required to drive a College vehicle on or about campus in performing the functions of the position. Those candidates possessing a valid drivers license would be subject to a background check and motor vehicle report.

Responsibilities:
-Assist with maintaining documentation of test results accordingly. (Essential) -Provide assistance with data entry and answering phone calls. (Essential) -Be knowledgeable of College procedures and act accordingly. (Essential) -Receive calls. (Essential) -Data entry. (Essential) -Assist in lifting carrying and transporting patients if needed. (Essential) -Provide care following established protocols or medical direction if required. (Essential) -Report nature of illness or injury to receiving medical facility. (Essential) -Replace/stock supplies. (Essential) -Check all equipment/supplies for future readiness/response. (Essential) -Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of equipment and supplies. (Essential) -Maintain familiarity with all specialized equipment. (Essential) -Serve in the impaired student holding area (ISRA), overseeing impaired students who may present a danger to themselves and are unable to return safely to their residences. (Essential) -Provide necessary care and observe condition of impaired students monitoring for the need for additional medical services. (Essential) -Remove soiled linens and provide appropriate care to patients in the Health Center. (Essential) -Attend meetings; critique medical charts with supervisor; attend training sessions as required. (Essential)

Physical Standards:

-Able to move about freely on campus. -Must be able to work in an uncontrolled stressful environment.

-Ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125 lbs. (250 lbs. with assistance).

-Good manual dexterity, with ability to perform all tasks related to highest quality patient care.

Special Job Features:

-On call when College Health Services is closed and for special events. On call schedules will be posted one month in advance. -This position is subject to a background check.

Pay Transparency:
$16.88 per hour.
