Description

Essential Job Duties:

  • Install telecommunication cables, including in trenches and difficult-to-reach places.
  • Protect optical fiber from the elements and keep clean.
  • Inspect and repair fiber optic cables and other types of cables.
Physical Demands:

Must be able to:
  • Walk, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop, squat, lift, and climb ladders
  • Lift, push, and pull 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Be able to climb utility poles and work out of an aerial lift device.
  • Be able to stand, walk, and work on uneven ground for the full workday.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of technical school and/or community college programs focusing on electronics, telecommunications and computer technology preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with safe driving record required.
  • Ability to pass a background check required.
  • Working understanding of OSP installation and maintenance functions.
  • Ability to read and understand OSP construction drawings for in-field installation of aerial and buried fiber OSP facilities.
  • Working knowledge of telecommunications network infrastructure.
  • Ability to operate a non CDL bucket truck, and boom.
  • Ability to adhere to corporate policies and safety procedures.
  • Ability to identify potential installation concerns that may affect the quality of production.
  • Good at troubleshooting.
  • Adept at creating plans or layouts and executing them.
  • Enjoy working outdoors.
  • Not bothered by heights or confined spaces.
  • Safety-conscious, especially around high-voltage lines.
  • Good communication skills to work with customers and team members.


Environment: Working with fiber optic cables usually involves operating in tight or confined spaces, near power lines, and even atop tall poles. These factors create various safety hazards ranging from dropping a tool on yourself, being exposed to charged wires, high voltages, explosive gasses, and much more. The position is located outside and subject to extreme temperatures.
