Job Summary

This is a Part-Time Support/Clerical position in the College Store.

Essential Duties

This position performs sales duties utilizing a computerized point-of-sale system, operates the Coffee Bar (making drinks to order), monitors store inventory, and restocks shelves and coffee supplies when necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Operates sales terminals in College Store and Coffee Bar.
  • Assists customers and provides friendly customer service.
  • Prices and stocks textbooks and merchandise.
  • Assists customers with special orders: nursing pins, graduation uniforms, graduation invitations, etc.
  • Reviews inventory and informs manager of items to be ordered and assists with orders.
  • Assists with textbook returns (cleaning and packing).
  • Assists with daily store opening/closing (when necessary), which includes: locking doors, removing cash drawers, closing sales terminals, securing cash in the safe and closing processes on point of sale system.
  • Assists with web orders and textbook reservations.
  • Assists with annual physical inventory.
  • Assists with merchandising and store displays.
  • Responsible for keeping store and coffee bar clean, neat and orderly.
  • Assists with store promotions.
  • Assists with arranging textbooks in course number order.
  • Responsible for stocking sales terminal supplies.
  • Assists with receiving textbooks and merchandise.
  • Assists with food service area - transport food to campus, prepare drinks, serve, sell and cleanup.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent typically works in an office/campus cafe environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to fifty (50) pounds or more. Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) months related experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must have working knowledge of calculators, copy machines, printers, sales terminals, fax machines and other office machines.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to handle difficult customers.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement concerning customer refund requests and sales.
  • Ability to work extra hours during peak times and evening hours.
  • Must be able to handle stress of long lines of customers.
  • Must be able to adjust shelving and move heavy book carts and loaded dollies.

Preferences

  • Previous sales and basic record keeping experience preferred
  • Barista experience preferred
