Description

Reporting to the Principal Laboratory Investigator, the part-time Laboratory Technician will assist with experiments aimed at understanding the neurobiological basis of brood parasitism in birds. The Lab Technician will help train undergraduate and high school student collaborators and helps monitor the progress of student projects. Multiple undergraduate students may collaborate on research projects that will be organized and directed by the Lab Technician under the supervision of the principal investigator. The Laboratory Technician hours will be from 8am to 1pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This position is contingent upon grant funding.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists with steroid extraction, hormone assays, behavioral assays, and field collection of birds.
  • Completes training at Hofstra University.
  • Organizes, trains, and monitors progress of student research projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, neuroscience, or closely related field required.
  • At least one year (or two semesters) of wet lab research experience in hormone assays.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to provide own transportation to and from training sites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Availability to start in July strongly desired.
  • Previous experience handling and caring for birds.

Salary/Salary Range
$20.00 per hour
