About the Role

TAM seeks an experienced Category Manager to support our Supply Indirect Service and Materials. This role is a crucial role to ensure that TAM's non-production related purchasing needs are met efficiently and cost-effectively.

In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring goods and services required for the smooth operation of the company's non-production functions. This includes but is not limited to freight and logistics, 3PL warehousing, corporate office leasing, IT, facility management, marketing, consulting, office supplies, and other indirect materials necessary for business functions.

There are several key areas of responsibility:

  • Strategic Sourcing - Execute sourcing strategies (developed in partnership with supervisor) for services and indirect materials to ensure cost savings, quality, and timely delivery. Identify and qualify potential suppliers through market analysis, supplier evaluation, and competitive bidding processes.
  • Contract Management - Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements. Regularly review and update contracts to reflect changing business needs and market conditions. The initial primary focus is to establish a network of contracted service providers across over-the-road trucking, intermodal, and boxcar shipment. Also, to optimize warehousing network efficiencies an 3PL service providers.
  • Procurement Operations - Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their requirements and provide procurement support and guidance. Process purchase orders, track deliveries, and manage inventory levels to ensure continuity of supply while minimizing excess inventory and costs.
  • Cost Management - Conduct cost analysis and benchmarking to identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost reduction initiatives. Monitor expenses and budgets related to services and indirect materials, identifying areas for improvement and efficiency.
  • Price Negotiation - Negotiating prices with suppliers for individual transactions; Ad hoc price negotiations at regional level; Securing favorable pricing based on market conditions and volume.
  • Supplier Relationship Management - Establishing and managing long-term relationships with key suppliers and conducting regular supplier performance reviews and evaluations of suppliers.
  • Quality Management - Communication with supplier relating to quality incident and calculating claim amount and presenting to supplier for credit.
  • Compliance Management - Ensuring compliance with procurement policies and procedures and managing documentation and record-keeping for audit purposes
  • Supplier Performance Tracking - Monitoring and tracking supplier performance against agreed metrics and providing feedback to suppliers and initiating corrective actions if needed.
  • Strategy Execution - Implementing the sourcing strategies developed at the strategic level and executing sourcing plans in alignment with global strategic sourcing team.
  • Responsible Sourcing and Supplier Diversity - Proactively manage diversity in the supplier base and minority suppliers, including but not limited to women-owned, veteran-owned, black and LBGTI, incorporating sustainable and ethical sourcing practices and proactively identify and mitigate price & supply risks associated with supplier relationships, market fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions. Develop in partnership with supervisor contingency plans to address potential disruptions and ensure business continuity.
  • Other duties as required - e.g., regional procurement support and key stakeholder management.


About You
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a related field or equivalent business experience.
  • You have a minimum of 4 years of proven experience procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management, preferably in services and indirect materials purchasing.
  • You are tertiary qualified, or ISM/CAPS certification preferred.
  • You have a Lean/Six Sigma Black or Green Belt, preferred but not required.
  • You have a strong understanding of procurement processes and have applied these concepts throughout your work history.
  • You are analytical and a problem-solver, with a keen attention to detail.
  • You are proficient in procurement software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • You know and understand contract law and procurement best practices.
  • You can effectively communication at all levels of the organization and have strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • You can work without supervision and have exceptional time management, planning and communication skills, and can manage complexity.
  • You have exceptional Excel and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software skills; JDE experience preferred.

Pay Transparency Disclosure: The base pay range offered for this position is based on a yearly salary of $97,000 to $115,000. These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and alignment with market data. Our expectation is that the incumbent will work out of Napa, CA. If the incumbent works out of another location, the wage rate may fall above or below this range. Treasury reserves the right to modify the range in the future.
