Job Duties: Perform complex chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests and procedures and related duties, to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, following established standards and practices. Responsible for specimen processing, test performance and reporting test results. Analyze samples of biological material for chemical content or reaction. Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results. Perform venipuncture and capillary collections to obtain patient samples. Collect, study, and perform testing of blood, urine, body fluids, tissues and other substances from patients. Cultivate, isolate, or assist in identifying microbial organisms or perform various tests on these microorganisms. Harvest cell cultures at optimum time, based on knowledge of cell cycle differences and culture conditions. Document analysis of medical tests or clinical results. Select and prepare specimens and media for cell cultures, using aseptic technique and knowledge of medium components and cell requirements. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including the processing of quality control, calibrations and patient specimens. Maintain reagent and supply inventory levels including stocking, restocking and ordering of supplies. Maintain appropriate education and development. Assist in applicable medical research under direction of microbiologist or biochemist.
