We are the core OS networking team that is responsible for building the core networking stack for powering Container networking. The team is looking for a talented, highly motivated software engineer II. You will innovate on the networking platform that powers Azure and Edge platforms. In the core OS networking group, innovation is abundant as virtualization becomes ubiquitous, workloads are containerized, network function offload proliferates, and internet protocols evolve. You will have the opportunity to innovate building out key functionality such as eBPF and enable cloud native solutions by reimagining container networking with the industry.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for design, architecture, and execution in your areas of responsibility, producing and operating high-quality scale services, and collaboration with partners. We are looking for an engineer who takes pride in their craft, works pragmatically and with enthusiasm to motivate and energize others. Core responsibilities include:

  • Understand latest container networking technologies that our customers use such as Kubernetes and eBPF.
  • Influence architecture and design complex software and implement functionality using the latest software development life cycle techniques and tools.
  • Ship quality code whether it is in kernel or in user mode and ensure it has effective diagnosability and observability built into it for production level usage.
  • Demonstrate deep empathy for the customer and support them from day 0 to day 100+
  • Foster and participate in an inclusive and collaborative team culture.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify requirements, trends and opportunities.
  • Participate and influence a culture with a focus on making customers successful and improving developer productivity.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of experience in Kubernetes and container management.
  • 1+ years of experience developing Operating System code.
Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient coding, debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient communication and collaboration skills
  • Solid understanding of systems software
  • Proficient design and implementation skills using C/C++ for user and kernel components
  • Experience with networking protocols and architecture
  • Thorough understanding of modern container networking architecture concepts such as Kubernetes and eBPF

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
