Summary

The Shelter Support Workers provides on-site support services to newly arrived migrant individuals and families that are guests within shelters. Shelter support worker orients shelter guests to the program, services, promotes guest safety, clarifies facility rules, and provides daily monitoring and coordination of activities for individuals and families within the shelter.

Location: Tuscon, AZ

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides daily monitoring and coordination of activities for individuals and families within the shelter.
  • Coordinates non-clinical needs of residents housed at shelter, by greeting, managing, maintaining security, and supporting other needed service as requested.
  • Completes all client related forms (intake, departure, referrals, daily activity, medication log, etc.).
  • Ensure that provisions of mandated services to shelter residents are met daily.
  • Document all families, staff and visitors entering and exiting the facility in daily log.
  • Facilitate resident new admissions and move outs.
  • Complete all client related forms (intake, departure, referrals, daily activity, medication log, etc.)
  • Conduct groups, activities, and life-skills training with participants.
  • Distribute toiletries and supplies to participants.
  • Maintain an updated bed count and shelter night count (bed sheet, board).
  • Perform clerical duties (answer incoming calls, answer door filing, making copies, etc).
  • Oversee participation in daily program activities and provide optimal customer service to shelter residents.
  • Complete routine resident and facility checks to ensure that guests are not at risk and that the facility is free of potential hazards (leaks, fire, destruction of property, etc.).
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
Qualification, Knowledge, and Skills:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required with a minimum of one (1) year experience in working in a social services shelter program.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English or French/Creole (Speak, Read, Write and Translate) preferred.
  • Culturally competent and understands the immigrant and refugee community.
  • Proficient presentation skills as well as oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word, and Outlook.
  • Flexibility is required due to potential shift changes based on operational needs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to support 24/7/365 shelter operations.
