Hospice Massage Therapist - PT


Job Details

*Part-time position split between Des Moines Metro and Kavanagh House teams. *

Purpose:

Manually manipulates soft tissues and muscles of a patent in a facility or private home to assist in managing pain and increase the patient's comfort level during the end-of-life process with the scope of practice.

Responsibilities:

In consultation with the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG), evaluates a patient to determine the best treatment plan in accordance with the patient's needs, capabilities and physical tolerance.
Manually manipulates muscles and soft tissues to relieve pain and stress.
Uses warm compresses or vibratory devices as needed to aid the massage technique. Observes, evaluates, documents and reports the patient's response to the massage treatment and to therapeutic changes.
Coordinates the massage therapy treatment plan with other therapy treatment provided by other treatment team members.
Maintains a calm and soothing environment during treatment.
Documents accurate and ongoing patient information, with in the patient medical record. All documentation is complete according to organizational, and professional standards. All documentation is completed as it occurs.
Actively participate in team meetings, committees and quality improvement planning and processes.
Takes part, when possible, to meet a patient/family s need for continuous care in time of crisis.
Minimizes non-productive time and slow periods with activities to prepare to meet the future needs of the agency.
Assists patients, family members and all contacts according to the general performance standards, demonstrating organizational values with all interactions. Coordinates community resources and other agency disciplines participating in patient care.
Maintains ongoing effective communication with other hospice personnel involved with patient care. This may involve formal and informal meetings outside of IDG.
Participates in hospice and community health programs as required to promote the growth and understanding of the hospice philosophy, including but not limited to, hospice education presentations.

Qualifications:

Must be licensed to provide massage therapy in the state of Iowa
Mandatory Reporter of Child and Dependent Adult abuse training certification (within 30 days of hire)
Must have valid driver's license, auto liability insurance and reliable transportation if driving is required
Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screen, 2-step TB test and background check

Working Conditions:

Physical requirements: Light work, sitting most of the time, exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a small amount of force constantly to move objects.

Environment: Work is primarily performed in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential
Travel: Required between locations
Time: Work hours based on patient-driven census model
