Job Description
Assures a safe and accurate supply of operative instrumentation to health care team members within the Operating Room setting. This person is responsible for the decontamination of surgical instruments, utensils and other surgical items, preparation amp; packing , processing sterile stores amp; other miscellaneous duties. Position located at University Hospitals.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and to read and write simple sentences; 1 course or 3 months experience in maintenance of surgical instruments and 1 course or 3 months experience in sterilizing techniques; or at least 4 months as Sterile Supply Technician 1.
Scope of Position
The Sterile Supply Technician II (SSTII) position in GE Endoscopy helps process endoscopy instrumentation and equipment, utilized in Endoscopy as well as UH and James operating rooms.
Position Summary
Under direct supervision, of the Endoscopy Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Charge RN, or physician: receives, reprocesses and dispenses endoscopes and other endoscopy equipment. With limited latitude for independent decisions within the bounds of delegated authority, performs variety of duties involving the departmental work load.
Duties and Responsibilities
75% of time .
Receives, sorts, and prepares endoscopes and accessories for support of patients receiving endoscopy procedures. Inventories, inspects, prepares for reprocessing, stores all endoscopy equipment according to manufacturers guidelines. Maintains an adequate supply level of endoscopes for procedural areas. Ensures accessories are sterilized and/or reprocessed according to hospital policy with adequate supply for unit needs. Maintains all endoscope washers. Maintains daily logs for all reprocessing equipment. Maintains log for eye wash station in reprocessing area. Assists with preparing endoscopes for loan to other hospital areas (UH, James ORs). Accounts for and reprocesses on their return to endoscopy, inventories for broken, missing instruments and/or items to be repaired or replaced. Identifies, reports, and replaces instruments and equipment that is missing or in need of repair. Operates ultrasonic cleaner. Assists with the orientation of new technician employees. Assists with training of nursing staff with regard to endoscope reprocessing and handling knowledge base.

Assists with room turnover
Assists with readying procedural areas for impending cases by obtaining endoscope from supply cabinet, performing proper set up in rooms, including registering scope into Provation database according to patient, nurse, and MD; attaching suction and water supply, white balancing scope, performing quality check with light source, and other requested needs. Responds to procedural areas when advised that the case has been completed and scope is ready to return to reprocessing area for maintenance. Stocks patient care items, both in procedural areas and supply rooms.. Assists with ordering and inventories as requested.. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner and restocks with supplies as needed. Works cohesively with other reprocessing staff to ensure all unit needs are met.

Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: High school graduate or possess the G.E.D. Previous experience as an instrument processor or a proven performance record in a Sterile Supply Technician I (SSTI) position.
On going: Meets mandatory educational and health requirements (medical evaluation and Hepatitis testing will be required). Demonstrates competence in essential job functions.

Work Environment
The work environment involves everyday risks and discomforts, which require safety precautions. Some of the safety precautions include education and health risk monitoring, e.g. working around moving parts, carts, machines, or noise: working with sharps (i.e. needles, syringes, etc.), and radiation and/or medicine (i.e., pesticides, laboratory and/or cleaning agents) or infectious diseases.
