POSITION: Parent Facilitator

LOCATION: Various Location

JOB SUMMARY:
To improve the collaboration between parents, school personnel, and community members. To increase parent involvement in the educational process of their children and help close the gap between parents and school personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Sixty (60) college credit hours, Associates degree preferred;
  2. Experience working with sensitive information regarding students;
  3. Experience serving as an advocate for children and parents;
  4. Understanding of family engagement research and literature;
  5. Strong knowledge of computers and fundamental technology (Microsoft Office and Google Suites);
  6. Understand and respect the diversity of families' economic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds and situations;
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  2. Strong public speaking and presentation skills;
  3. Self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as part of a team;
  4. Strong interpersonal skills;
  5. Ability to host parent meetings at off school sites, in the local community, and/or neighborhoods;
  6. Ability to develop collaborative partners and build relationships with constituents in the community;
  7. Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Ensures that Title I, Part A parent involvement regulations are met with meaningful and strategic actions to build parent capacity;
  2. Works with school administration to create a family-friendly environment;
  3. Serves as the liaison between the school and parents;
  4. Educates staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents as equal partners in ensuring the academic achievement of their students;
  5. Provides opportunities to develop effective family-school partnerships to support student achievement and school improvement;
  6. Helps parents understand the school system so they can become better advocates for their children's education;
  7. Expands opportunities for continued learning, voluntary classroom service, and school participation;
  8. Advises and trains parents on how to address issues with teachers and the school leadership staff;
  9. Provides referrals for community-based services for families dealing with conditions that impact the academic achievement of students;
  10. Develops community collaborations;
  11. Promotes sharing power with parents as decision-makers;
  12. ?Maintains a parent resource center;
  13. Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the Supervisor.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
