Environmental, Safety & Health Specialist

Come join our team! DeRoyal is a global medical device manufacturer based. Our Risk Management team has an immediate opening for an Environmental, Safety & Health Specialist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing company-wide policies and procedures, programs, and activities for a successful comprehensive environmental, safety and health (ES&H) management system. Assists Director of Risk Management in managing corporate risk management function.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assesses needs and develops and implements ES&H programs, policies, and procedures. Works with facility personnel to improve ES&H programs within the individual manufacturing facility.

Conducts safety and health training, including CPR/First Aid training.

Provides support in maintaining the Comprehensive Occupational Safety and Health Manual and offers interpretive guidance to Managers and Supervisors, as necessary.

Evaluates ES&H compliance through site assessments or other measures and creates reports for management.

Assists with development of training programs for Supervisors and employees.

Provides interpretation of local, state, and federal ES&H related laws and regulations and advises/educates personnel on strategies to comply with regulations. Files reports as required.

Assists Managers and/or Consultants with industrial hygiene issues.

Coordinates safety activities of Management to ensure implementation of safety activities throughout organization.

Recommend changes in policies and procedures to prevent occupational injury or illness.

Maintains chemical lists for plant locations.

Assists Director with environmental programs and compliance issues.

Assigns and oversees the defensive driver program.

Maintains Risk Management Learning Management System and assigns training as required.

Creates custom reports that may include loss data and premiums.

Maintains equipment lists for plant locations.

Most possess strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills.

Able to adjust to changing priorities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree required. Minimum of 2 to 3 years relevant work experience required. Professional certification (ASP, CSP) and/or ability to earn certification a plus.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to use fax machine, office copier and computer required. Must have experience using various computer software programs, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demands ability to read and understand regulations and other technical documents and prepare summaries and reports. Requires skill in dealing diplomatically and professionally with employees representing all levels of the organization and the ability to speak before audiences clearly and confidently. Must be capable of satisfactorily completing the American Red Cross instructor courses for Standard First Aid.
