Position Description

Flagstaff Academy seeks a Health Clerk for the 2024-25 school year. This position is responsible for meeting the health needs of students; providing basic first aid, medication administration, and health records maintenance. The ideal candidate is someone who has excellent communication skills with children and who handles sensitive situations with respect and empathy. The Health Clerk coordinates the annual hearing and vision screenings as well as the annual dental clinic for students. The Health Clerk also coordinates staff training with the nurse consultant. The position requires close collaboration with staff to ensure the safety and welfare of students. The Health Clerk works under the guidance of a nurse consultant in partnership with Children's Hospital.

Qualifications Sought

Specifically, we seek an individual with:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or associated vocational training required
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certifications
  • Experience in a school or health care setting
  • Prior experience working with children
  • Experience with software applications; including student information systems (Infinite Campus preferred), word processing, Google Suite, email, and basic office equipment
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Exceptional organizational skills managing files and records
  • Calm demeanor and sound decision making in crisis situations
  • Skill in demonstrating tact in sensitive situations
  • Proficiency with oral, written, and interpersonal communications
  • Ability to accept supervisory direction and a desire for continuous improvement

Position Responsibilities:
  • Staff the health office throughout the school day
  • Provide minor first aid; water, ice packs, bandaids
  • Administer medication to students on med plans
  • Under the guidance of nurse consultant, manage students on health plans (ie, diabetes,seizures, etc)
  • Maintain a detailed daily log of health room student visits
  • Recordkeeping of student immunization records for annual state filing
  • Coordinate student allergy information with faculty and classrooms
  • Participate as a member of the school Emergency Response Team (ERT)
  • Maintain student health files
  • Maintain and review medication logs
  • Coordinate annual hearing and vision screenings
  • Prepare student medications for field trips
  • Review and follow Centers for Disease Control and Boulder County protocols
  • Meet with parents to discuss student needs
  • File and maintain detailed records
  • Coordinate and train health room volunteers
  • Work cooperatively with others and maintain a positive attitude in the work environment
  • Participate in appropriate staff development, as required, to ensure professional growth
  • Perform other duties as assigned
