POSITION PURPOSE:
The primary responsibility of the Corrosion/Operations Technician is to operate and maintain corrosion control facilities by planning and implementing corrosion control activities for pipelines and associated facilities. The position must comply with all applicable NNOGC and RHP Policies and Procedures, and any local, state, and federal regulatory agency(ies).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for all activities related to corrosion control (Internal/External), pipeline integrity, and Operations and Maintenance.
Cathodic protection includes recording annual pipe-to-soil readings, rectifier readings, bond readings, road casing status, and insulated effectiveness with a data recorder. Analyze and make recommendations based on the data collected.
Troubleshooting rectifier units, remote monitoring, performing interference testing, and overseeing cathodic protection installations.
Supervise contractor on new ground bed installations and close interval survey(s).
Monitor the condition of the pipeline through pipe-to-soil potentials, visual inspection, examination of coupons, data from in-line inspection tools, etc.
Conduct industry tests, measurements, and surveys to ensure efficient operation of cathodic protection equipment.
Responsible for all activities related to internal corrosion control program for assigned pipeline areas.
Collect all internal corrosion liquid samples from liquid sample pots and pig traps.
Collect and replace corrosion coupons from designated corrosion coupon sites.
Complete in-field liquid sample chemical analysis and bacterial testing.
Load all data to the internal corrosion database on a timely basis.
Maintain all field internal corrosion equipment.
Set corrosion inhibitor injection rates as prescribed by the Corrosion Support Group.
Witness and document internal inspection of pipeline sections including piping in facilities.
Collect data required to define the nature of internal corrosion threat and the effectiveness of mitigation actions.
Prepare and participate in internal and external annual review meetings.
Document all work related to performing and maintaining regulatory compliance and operating and maintenance procedures.
Prepare and participate in regulatory inspections.
Perform other assigned duties.
MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Five years of relevant experience in the operation of oil and gas pipelines
Education:
High school diploma, or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of corrosion control experience.
Approved educational courses in all phases of corrosion including internal, external, and atmospheric corrosion.
Understand and operate all corrosion-related instrumentation.
Working knowledge of environmental and safety aspects of coating projects.
Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems.
Proficient with computer skills (MS Office, operating systems, company software, and technical systems).
Basic Math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, etc.).
Proficient with electronic test instruments.
Licenses or Certifications:
Ability to pass and maintain Operator Qualification requirements (OQ) within 180 days of hire.
AMPP Certification (CP-2 and Internal Corrosion) within 180 days of hire.
Complete and maintain all qualifications, certifications, and progression requirements applicable to the position.
Participate and complete any site-specific technical training, as appropriate.
Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Qualifications:
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications
Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.
Responsible, accountable, and able to take direction from management.
Able to operate and maintain chemical injection and pressure access equipment.
Well-balanced interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to operate crude oil pumps and related equipment, monitor product quality, and respond to system problems and emergencies.
Maintain detailed records of oil flow and process reports.
Comply with DOT regulations and safety guidelines.
Mechanical aptitude is necessary for maintenance and general operational requirements.
Active participation in the safety program
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work Environment:
Must be able to work a regular schedule and occasionally, be willing to work long hours, weekends, nights, and holidays as required. This may also include being on call for 24-hour emergencies. Depending on the location and workload, travel may be required.
Able to carry a company cell phone and be responsive to calls 24/7.
Must be able to enter confined spaces, climb to and work from elevated platforms, excavated areas, ladders, walkways, etc.
You must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and occasionally lift 50 pounds from the floor to waist level.
You may be required to work alone without direct supervision.
There may be exposure to smells and vapors associated with crude petroleum products containing chemicals that may be related to certain type of illnesses or reproductive toxicity. Some of these products emit vapors under certain conditions, are flammable, and may be explosive under certain circumstances.
Must be willing to work in all-weather exposure and conditions.
Physical demands:
The employee must be physically capable of meeting all training requirements as mandated by local, state, or federal agencies and/or company policy.
Work is carried out in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions and may involve rigorous physical labor in diverse climatic conditions, including walking, bending, stooping, climbing tanks, digging, lifting, and general manual labor.
Field activities may encompass walking to and amidst work and/or construction sites, climbing in and out of trenches, working around heavy equipment, navigating rough terrain, and areas of loose rock, and working in confined spaces. Visual acuity and the ability to hear various alarms are essential. Extended periods of sitting may be necessary for administrative activities.
Mental demands:
The employee must also multi-task and interact with a wide variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.
