The Security Specialist, U.S. Security Operations, East, is a member of UnitedHealth Group's (UHG) Corporate Security team, supporting ProHealth Physicians, reporting to the Associate Director, U.S. Security Operations, East. Corporate Security is responsible for the Enterprise Workplace Security Program that ensures the protection of the company s global workforce and physical assets through security risk management platforms.

The Security Specialist must be able to demonstrate their ability to leverage relationships, data, technology, and automation to deliver success. The role requires in-depth knowledge and experience creating multi-disciplinary security solutions supports delivery of security solutions. This is a hybrid role, and it is regionally based in the United States in the East. Qualified candidates need to have experience within facility or security operations and maintenance. Candidates also need to have demonstrated experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in order to effectively plan for and implement physical security enhancements.

The Security Specialist, U.S. Security Operations, East will support the overall Corporate Security mission and to enable the success, sustainability, and scalability of the entire enterprise workplace security program. The Security Specialist, U.S. Security Operations, East will also be accountable for building and maintaining strong internal partnerships with key stakeholders to include but not limited to: Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (EOHS); Human Capital/Employee Relations; LCRA (Compliance, Employment Law, Litigation and Privacy); Real Estate Services (RES); business stakeholders; and external partners as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for planning, implementing, and overseeing workplace and safety initiatives to be compliant with UHG security policies and standards for the U.S. East region, specifically ProHealth Physicians
  • Partner with business leadership to understand business operations and objectives, socialize workplace security programs, and ensure business leaders are informed of Corporate Security resources, expertise, and guidance
  • Ensure the delivery of quality, best practice services and solutions across the ProHealth Physicians; identify and solution problems that impede delivery and effectiveness. To include but not limited to:
    • Manage access control at several locations including making, activating, and deactivating badges and fobs;
    • Maintains a centralized security database for all employees
    • Manage intrusion alarms schedule, emergency contacts and user codes using several cloud based platforms
    • Troubleshoot activated intrusion alarms at all practice sites
    • Service coordination and maintenance of electronic access control and intrusion alarm systems
    • Coordinate installation, additions, upgrades, and decommissioning of systems
    • Coordinate security preventative maintenance for electronic access control systems, and intrusion alarm systems
    • Contact service vendors as necessary and follows work to completion
    • Maintain inventory of systems and equipment by location
    • Elevate service issues to management as necessary; and follow all policies and procedures and contributes to policy/procedure updates when requested
  • Partner with Associate Director, U.S. Security Operations, East, and Global Risk Management CoE in implementing security solutions across ProHealth Physicians
  • Advise and lead employees on various safety related topics, to include preparing educational seminars
  • Collaborate with leadership on budgeting funds for workplace safety and security initiatives.
  • Support Corporate Security team in response to critical security incidents, threats, and crises. (e.g., workplace violence, armed assailant, civil unrest, political conflict, criminal acts, etc.).
  • Provide significant partnership with business leaders in ProHealth Physicians to support their security needs
  • Provide business leadership with security incident reporting metrics and actionable data and develop an understanding of business leadership perspective related to security opportunities.

  • Champion physical security, security awareness, and proactive security training initiatives by ensuring execution of strategy in collaboration with Corporate Security program leads and other internal stakeholders
  • Drive effective communications and collaboration with leadership, peers, team members, internal stakeholders, and the business to ensure alignment and coordination
  • Work across and support other teams as well as participate in cross-functional initiatives to promote the greater Corporate Security, Compliance and UHG missions
  • Proactively seek opportunities to build and improve partnerships with the business
  • Drive awareness of Corporate Security and resources across the enterprise; enables the cultivation of a mature security culture across the enterprise through strategic training and awareness initiatives
  • This role will require after-hours on-call availability and up to 25% travel
  • This role may be assigned other duties as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in applicable area of expertise or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of relevant security experience in the private and/or public sector to include security operations, facilities, risk management, intelligence, law enforcement and/or military
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex security risks and operating in a domestic business environment
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with incidents and critical events; ability to work effectively during emergency and crisis situations
  • Ability to navigate high levels of ambiguity/uncertainty and make critical decisions rapidly
  • Superior problem-solving and critical thinking ability
  • Solid leadership engagement, communication, and presentation skills to include personal briefings
  • Ability to work across and navigate a large matrixed organization; strong business acumen
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the organization
  • High levels of integrity and credibility
  • Critical understanding of confidentiality and situational sensitivity
  • Effective using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Experience utilizing Smartsheet

Connecticut Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $58,300 to $114,300 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
