DESE Research, Inc. is seeking a skilled and motivated Data Scientist to join our Supply Chain Risk Management team. The ideal candidate should have a strong familiarity with engineering principles and software design, development, and processing. In this role, the candidate will collaborate closely with SCRM analysts through organizing and analyzing findings, particularly in the context of vulnerabilities identified through SBOMs and historical analysis. The candidate will be responsible for developing data-driven solutions, performing statistical analysis, and assisting in the creation of reports. This position will support the SCRM team in identifying threats and areas of risk to the Army's current and developmental weapon systems through SCRM vendor and component analysis per DoD 5200.44 and DoD 5200.39.

This position will be 100% on-site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply interdisciplinary methods, algorithms, and research techniques to extract knowledge and provide insights from structured and unstructured data
  • Perform analysis of data systems, including Big Data systems, and conduct statistical analysis
  • Evaluate data, algorithms, and their interactions to improve algorithm performance
  • Assist with data modeling and data virtualization
  • Perform SBOM creation, validation, and analysis
  • Ensure secure architecture and design within DevOps frameworks
  • Where applicable, conduct static and dynamic code analysis, and participate in digital forensics investigations
  • Write security assessment and evaluation reports in accordance with NIST SP 800-37 format/templates
Minimum Security Clearance: Active DoD Secret security clearance

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics, Operations Research, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance
  • Familiarity with advanced machine learning, data science techniques, and mathematical approaches
  • Working knowledge of current operating systems and programming languages
Desired Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with various stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Experience with Machine Learning / Deep Learning, Advanced Analytics, and various databases (e.g., Neo4j, MongoDB, ArangoDB, SQL, and NOSQL)
  • Strong familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, Julia, TensorFlow, CUDA, JavaScript, Scala, Java, Unix/Linux, C, and C++
  • Applied Mathematics experience in areas such as Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, and Partial Differential Equations
  • Knowledge of modern SBOM formats such as CycloneDX
  • Experience with SBOM analysis software such as Dependency-Track
  • Knowledge of Government frameworks, including DoD 8570.01-M and DoD 8140.03-M
  • Practical experience writing security assessment and evaluation reports, or similar documents
