Job Details

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Performs all duties and activities in a manner that conforms to site specific safety requirements, company policy, state and federal regulations.

* Advance the continuous miner from each working place in accordance to the approved cut sequence. (See PA 1, 2, 3, 13, 14, 16, 21, 22, 23, 26)

* Operate machine to cut coal minimizing the cutting of top and floor to prevent dilution of the coal. (See PA 2, 3, 13, 14, 16, 21, 22, 23, 26)

* Check the bits and bit holders on the cutting drums at regular intervals and replace the same as required for the cutting conditions. (See PA 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 14, 16, 19, 21, 22)

* Check lubrication/service points and fluid levels at regular intervals and maintain as required. Check the scrubber for proper operation and clean as needed. Check the water sprays for proper operation, maintain as needed. (See PA 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 14, 16, 19, 21, 22)

* Perform gas tests as required by law. (See PA 2, 3, 11, 12, 14, 19, 21, 22)

* Maintain proper face ventilation devices. (See PA 2, 3, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 21)

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Able to operate a continuous miner in an efficient and safe manner.

* Able to distinguish the top and floor during the cutting operation while using the remote control station.

* Know the major components of the continuous miner.

* Know the location and operation of the emergency stop switches, visible disconnect and fire suppression and deluge system.

* Know the lubrication and service requirements of the continuous miner.

* Know the safe job procedures for operating the continuous miner.

* Know the standard operating procedures for the section.

* Know proper face ventilation and cable handling procedures.

* Able to mark centerlines and cross-cuts.

* Able to cut cross-cuts efficiently.

* Know the Safe Job Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, company safety policies, and applicable rules and regulations.

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

This position requires the operator to possess the dexterity (refer to Physical Abilities) to work and operate machinery and equipment in a coal seam height that varies. The operator must constantly be attentive to the changing geological conditions and surrounding environment.

Education, Qualifications and Training:

Underground coal miner's certificate

Annual 8 hour retraining

Gas test certification

Continuous miner operator task training

On-the-job experience

Other qualifications as required by contract, regulations, and/or management
